1960's Childhood Memories

I grew up in the 1960's and remember many things from back then...however, I will share a few of those memories with you all today.

One of the things I remember are how the buses looked.  Here is a photo...
Since this is a black and white photo, you can't really see the colours...well, you can see the white.  LOL!  These buses were brown and white and looked pretty close to the photo I am sharing here.  The doors folded open and shut similar to an accordion, if you will as far as the look goes.  I remember, as well, that the doors sometimes had a squeaky sound.

Another thing I remember are some cereals...Quisp and Quake come to mind.  Here is a photo of them.
The last thing I will share today is a chocolate bar...Cadbury Snack Bar.  I actually found a photo of the wrapper.  I am assuming that this particular one would have been sold either here in Quebec or in France because of the bilingual label.
I do remember the slogan..."Fill that Gap", which you can see on the label.  This chocolate bar disappeared off the store shelves in my area and I haven't seen it since.  The reason I say this is because some items make a comeback;  perhaps due to popular demand, but alas, not so for the Cadbury Snack Bar.

Thank you so much for visiting me here, and please feel free to share your memories by leaving a comment.

  2. Do you still get other Cadbury chocolates in Canada? (It's the most common chocolate bar brand in the UK and Ireland, although I don't think they have anything called "Snack Bar", these days - unless it's in a completely different wrapper, and I just remember the look, rather than the name..)

    1. Hi Stella,

Thank you for your comment. :) We sure do get other chocolate bars from Cadbury here in Canada...Caramilk, Dairy Milk, and finger biscuits...to name a few. All these products were around back in the 60's and are still sold here. I never understood why they took the Snack Bar off the shelves, though.

Snack Bar was one of my favourites. Sad they discontinued it here in Canada about 20 years ago.

  5. I SAW THIS POST…about a year ago and the original SNACK BAR wrapper you posted was a big help.

I probably couldn't have solved the mystery of the disappearance of the best damn candy bar of all time without it! I went on this SNACK BAR quest BECAUSE the Cadbury SNACK BAR was my all-time FAV!

And I felt like having one.

I STILL haven't had one…but I HAVE solved the mystery of the SNACK BAR's disappearance!

The SNACK BAR is still around, and is alive and well!

…but, living in Australia! Not Canada, anymore~

UK chocolate has since been banned from our country (mad cow?), years back, and with that banning, OUT went the glorious SNACK BAR.

But, there is a little more to this craziness.

…and, perhaps this is biggest trickery of all…the candy bar being searched for…is not called SNACK BAR anymore…it is called Cadbury PICNIC!!!

There is a NEW Cadbury SNACK, but that is truly more like a snack chocolate waferette…SEE:
    http://www.britishcornershop.co.uk/product.asp?id=3418

In other words more like a snack offering.

The complicated Cadbury SNACK BAR was re-branded as the PICNIC bar!!

And the 70s Aussie PICNIC slogan was, "More like a banquet than a picnic."

That advertising is in keeping with the original SNACK BAR's "fills the gap" slogan that also had that littl' menu tally on the side of the candy bar, which suggested to the consumer…the bar itself was like a full course meal!

Full course meal? Banquet?? See the subtle link?

Now look at the pics of the two bars, their wrappers.

    SEE: http://neverwasanarrow.blogspot.ca/2013/05/what-ever-became-of-cadbury-snack-bar.html

The colour schema is the same!

The ingredients of both bars are close (not shown) but are not exactly the same. And remember neither is Coca-Cola from the 70s. It ain't the same as Coke today! But it is close.

    Well…there you have it!

I also keep wondering why Google searches of SNACK BAR images kept including PICNIC bar images…until…I looked at PICNIC in Wikipedia and saw the PICNIC bar cut through the centre…then I knew…PICNIC is SNACK BAR!

NOW, if we could somehow get them back in CANADA!

Sheesh! To come THIS FAR and still be so far away—
