Monday Melody and a New Poll!
Hello everyone! A very warm welcome to you all! I posted the new poll on Saturday but am just mentioning it again for those who may not have seen it. I am asking about Christmas shopping this time. You can always find my polls at the upper right hand column of my blog. Here in Montreal the retail sector is suffering and many stores are closing their doors. From what I have been hearing from the retail owners and managers, is that people are changing their shopping habits...many people are shopping online now, finding better deals, etc., so this is the main reason they are giving for closing their doors. Since I am wondering if this is happening in other parts of the world as well I decided to make this poll to ask about Christmas shopping. Thank you so much for taking the time to vote in my polls, and your responses are ALWAYS anonymous, even to myself. I (and my readers) are only able to see the results of the votes, nobody knows who voted what except the voters themselves, and unless you decide to share what your response is. The videos I have selected for this post are: A Just for Laughs Gag/Juste pour Rire
Sugar is Killing Us
Dogs Help to Detect Diseases in Humans
Cat Saves Little Boy from being Attacked by Neighbor's Dog
This is a beautiful (two minute) video that brought tears to my eyes, and I am unable to share it here on my blog, as perhaps the uploader doesn't permit it. i am providing the link to it because I think it is important for all to see this. Remember, we are not guaranteed anything except the moment we have, so it is so important to live in, and appreciate this moment, as we just don't know which moment will be our (or someone else's) last. The channel on Youtube is called "EDEKA" and the name of the video is Edeka Weihnachtsclip - #Heimkommen This video does have English subtitles but the actions in the video, I believe, speak for themselves. For myself, there are two kinds of crying...one that makes us very sad, but another that makes us think and brings us to action, wanting and trying to do better, resulting in making us better people. I believe the tears I shed whilst watching the video will help me to think, and cause me to be more kind and thoughtful. Either way, I recommend you have a couple of tissues ready...enjoy! I hope this video helps you all as well. :)
For the following, I am providing the link sources beneath each photo. You just need to click on the images to see a larger view. Worrying is a form of betting against yourself.
Yes, gotta cut down on one's intake of sugar...and watch out also for the hidden sugars! Must reduce those too. Like I always say, moderation is the key!
Good morning, dear Linda! My Thanksgiving holiday has come to an end and I am happy to be back with you. I took your poll. I think it's a shame that shopping in real stores is being replaced to a great extent by online shopping, much the same as emailing replaced letter writing. Clicking on items on a screen is not as pleasurable or meaningful as going out and getting rosy cheeked from the cold, browsing around a store for just the right gifts and sharing the holiday spirit with other shoppers. The piece about sugar is alarming. It has been at least 50 years since I added sugar to anything I consume and yet the manufacturers are slipping it into most of the processed foods we eat. It's terribly sad that the health problems caused by too much sugar in their diets is shortening the life expectancy of America's children. I was aware that dogs can smell disease in people's urine. I'm glad the medical community is accepting the help of canines in early detection of serious disease. I had already seen that brave kitty protecting the little boy from the attack dog, but it was nice to see it again. I also went to YouTube and watched the Edeka Weihnachtsclip - #Heimkommen piece. It brought tears. The message is an important one. Don't put off until tomorrow a visit to a loved one you seldom see, a loved one who is lonely. Don't wait until it's too late to tell someone you love them and give them the gift of your time.
here in Finland is the same thing with shopping, people are buying more on online, and outside of Finland, for example from Germany or Britain. And the tradional shops are in trouble.
for me i would shop online and go to the stores too. It depends on what in wanted to get. Somethings we can only get it online and some things whe have to see and feel it before buying.
One thing that deter me from going shopping at the stores are the parking and traffic. sometimes have to wait for than half an hour just to get a parking.
Hi dear Linda, you really outdid yourself today with the wonderful videos. I did watch the video too about the elderly gentleman. It was a real tearjerker. Let us cherish those we love while we yet have time to love them. Hugs. xx
The rescue cat video just blew me away, L ...he looks so much like my Theo , too ... the sugar video is good education ... you got a good thing going here ... tank you ... Love, cat.
First, I don't do Christmas shopping. My hubby and I don't exchange gifts, and there's really no one else to buy gifts for. I will admit, though, that I do a fair amount of shopping online. It's just so convenient.
The frustration of the folks in the JFL gag was almost tangible, and I could easily imagine myself in their places. Love the hero cat. It's awful to imagine the damage that dog might have done to the little boy if the cat hadn't intervened. I watched the video you linked to, as well. very touching.
Dear Linda - I liked the video of the courageous cat and some inspiriting words but today’s best for me is Edeka Weihnachtsclip. The love for elderly parent could be lost in daily rush. Cheers to the warmth of family getting together!
Hi Linda! Your posts are always so full of positive thoughts. I love them! With regards to the poll, I shop both online and in stores. The only reason I shop online is to send my family presents that are overseas. But for the people I shop for here in Italy, I shop in stores. It's much more personal than shopping online. I prefer it by all means. Best to you, Silvana
Hi Linda! I love the videos in special the one of the dog that detects diseases! Yes, here the selling had fell down as well. The business is bad in many sectors and many stores has closed down. The Internet prices are much better, but I think this is not the main reason for this bad time.
I am looking at our kitties with a new understanding today. That gag is wonderful. And the thing on sugar is important. As you know I loved all the Salmansohn posters! Merci beaucoup !
Hi,Linda! Thank you for sharing those wonderful videos! I like Japanese sweets with lot's of sugar.I am sure I will have to end up giving up them! Have a happy new week!
I've already weighed in on your poll. The same thing is happening here. People are tired of the crowds and rude people and just shop online. It's the way of things. It's far easier and you get things so quickly anymore.
Loved the gag. That would be most frustrating.
Everything needs to be done in moderation concerning food intake and we certainly need to know what we are putting into our bodies. It's not just sugar either.
Loved the dogs that can sense diseases. Way cool.
Love the hero kitty. I linked you to Awww Mondays.
shopping online is easier for me too ... i used to buy magazines from the newsstands, but now it's easier to subscribe online ... i think the only thing i need to purchase at stores is clothes ...
Dear Linda super post. Watching that kitty save the little boy's life was amazing. The dogs that detect disease are phenomenal. We certainly could take some tips from the animal kingdom. They have so much to teach us. Lovely post friend. Hugs!k
I don't shop on line, maybe it's the era I was born in but I know more and more people do... xox
I like this quote:There's no way I was born to just pay bills and die. .... I've been thinking about it a lot lately, I believe we were born for special reasons ♡
I looked at the Edeka video (Edeka is a grocery store chain here in Germany). It was very nice, but I don't like that someone would pretend they're dead to get the family together. (THough I understand the reason... )
Tomorrow is my first day at the new job. Hope it will all go well!!!
I saw that video Heimkommen just yesterday, and I've watched it 3 times already. Beautiful indeed, and very thought-provoking.... I must say I have taken to shopping online more and more in the past years. It's just so easy, and often even cheaper than buying in a "real" store. So I can imagine shops having to close their doors because the competition is too high. Here in Europe however we have to pay income taxes and duties on everything that costs more than 22 euros and comes from outside of the EU, which makes online shopping outside of the EU very expensive (double the price!).....
I've been reading quite a bit about sugar recently. There's an Aussie film called, That Sugar Film, that's very informative and entertaining too. Think you might enjoy it.
I shop mostly online. It certainly saves time and is very convenient for me. I guess many shops must get very creative to compete against online stores. I still make weekly trip to grocery store, though :-)
That link to that video was beautiful. A reminder about what is important at Christmas and always. Have you seen this one. Get the tissues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuz2ILq4UeA
I'm trying to buy as much as possible online. There are some things that are holding me up, though. My goal this year is to do as much as possible online. I'm curious to see just how much I can do that way!
I mostly shop in stores because seeing all of the decorations and grabbing a tea while spending a day shopping just feels like a tradition to me! Also, I very much love the CS Lewis quote--it is so important to remember that real, lasting happiness can never come from superficial things.
