Vintage Popcorn

Sometimes it seems like only yesterday when I think of the old movie theaters and the popcorn they served.  The theaters were so beautiful and ornate, the ceilings had unique and attractive carvings.  I always loved the smell of the popcorn, and the taste was pretty good, too!  Those were the days!

I don't go to see movies often anymore.  In fact, I may go to a theater once in several years these days.  I actually prefer to watch a movie at home on television. For one thing there is no cost, another is that it is quiet and private.  I find that the cost of entertainment has gone up drastically over the years, so I opt for more affordable ways of enjoying my spare time.

I am going to share some photos from days gone by and hope that they will bring back some fond memories for you all.  The Cracker Jack box reminds me of when the cost was 10 cents, and there was always a free prize inside each box back then.

Thanks so much for visiting me today!  Please feel free to share your thoughts and memories by clicking on the "comments" link at the end of my post.

  1. Hey Linda,
Those WERE the days. I love to see a classical concert or going to the opera but the tickets overhere are terrible explosive expensive. A lot of concerts only can be visited by subscription for a whole lot of money and their are things in this subscription I don't like at all. So I stay home. Ore watch music I like on YouTube.
    Have a great evening

When I was a teenager I worked at my local theater. This was when they put the booth outside. I did this for many years. There is a lot to be said for those old movie theaters. I don't go to the movies anymore, like you said, it cost to much.

  3. I never go to cinema, these days. It's probably been about 20 years since I last saw a movie in cinema! I prefer to watch stuff at home, and I find the cinema ticket prices outrageous..

On popcorn, I've never understood sweet popcorn! (As in, popcorn with anything that's sweet..) I only add salt. I don't know if I've ever had popcorn with butter. Probably not.

  4. When I went to the movies in England they only sold the cracker jack type caramel corn. I always loved it even back then. Now I rarely go to the movies and enjoy them at home more. You also - if watching a DVD - can switch off and go do other things and then go back to them when you feel like it :) Thanks so much for stopping by and have a great week.

  5. More great memories, Linda. I also prefer watching movies at home now: no noisy people disturbing me by eating popcorn, for one thing!

  6. I mainly watch at home. Usually if I go, I take my grandkids. As a kid we went to mainly the free matinees that were sponsored by downtown merchants. I always loved hot, buttered popcorn. Crackerjacks were always a fave too. Had to try and dig down and get that prize out. Two movies as a kid that really come to mind are Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

  8. What a flashback....my brother and I went nuts over Cracker Jack boxes! I go to the cinema mabe once, twice a year. Too many commercials and movie trailers before the actual movie begins, and whenever I leave I feel as if my eardrums have been hammered to oblivion. Plus, in Italy they take a break half way through the film for about 10 minutes so that moviegoers can go to the restroom or stock up on more overpriced snacks. The modern multiplex cinemas aren't too bad, but some of the older single cinemas still have turkish toilets in them!

  9. Well, you have provided me with a good dose of nostalgia. I remember all those things my favorite being the Cracker Jack box with the prize.

  10. I lived in New York in the 60s and 70s and used to eat Cracker Jacks whenever I visited the Bronx Zoo. I have been looking for them for ages because I wanted to show them to my daughter hungrycaramella.blogspot.com who loves anything vintage. Thank you for the picture, now I will tell her to stop by your blog.

  11. Cracker Jacks were part of growing up for me. Plus they are mentioned in Take Me Out to the Ballgame and I am a big baseball fan. What a combination of baseball and Cracker Jack.
