My News

I want you all to know how much I appreciate you all visiting my blog and for your kind responses to my posts.  I will resume the Ducks at Sunset (beginning tomorrow) and there are two posts left for that series.

I am still seeing the employment counselor as I mentioned in previous posts.  As of now my job search has been put on hold.  It isn't easy for me to make this post, but I feel that being open and honest is the best way and will show you all who I am.  At this point in time if I were to go to a job interview I would seriously crumble under the pressure.  I don't even know why I have been so stressed, but I have been.  The heat and humidity are not helping me at all, either, as the summer is very hard for me.  You know how bears are known to hibernate in the winter?  I tend to "hibernate" in the summer...in the extreme heat and humidity.

What is happening now is that the employment counselor (and I agree with her) thinks that I will benefit greatly from a program whereas you work but you don't have to go through the process of an interview.  It will be real work but the purpose of the program is to help people to gain the skills and confidence they need to be able to get fully back into the work force.  This program can last between six months to one year and will be a 20 hour work week.  There are people around (such as social workers) to help the participants to realize their goals in a relaxed, non-stressful setting whereas the participants can work at their own pace.

My best friend, whose name is also Linda, is 6 years older than myself (she is 61)...and she just lost her job last week.  She is also quite stressed, and I fully comprehend how she feels.  It is hard enough to lose a job and it seems to get more difficult the older one gets...especially for women.  I would appreciate you keeping her in your prayers and thoughts as well.  She is trying to stay calm and I have been talking to her and telling her all I know as far as what procedures she needs to take in order to get employment insurance and the help she needs.  She was doing that job for 30 years.  I won't give more details as I respect her privacy, but I thank you all for keeping both my friend Linda and I in your prayers and thoughts.

Whew!  I have said a mouthful.  All this to let you know what is happening at this point in my life...and to ask for your prayers and thoughts on my behalf.

Again, thank you all so much for visiting me here and for your kind responses to my posts!  It means so much to me.

  6. I was a lawyer specialising in employment law...I know from my clients of that time just how apalling it is to lose your job, how it hits you emotionally as hard as being hit by a car would affect you physically.
All my best wishes for you both.

    1. Thank you so much. My friend Linda has scoliosis and I suffered a broken wrist in two places 5 years ago...we both are disabled in the sense that we have to find work that is suitable according to what we are able to do.

  7. I know how incredibly stressful it is to interview for a job. Yet, after working as a temporary employee for some time, I got up the courage to apply for the job I was temping in. I wound up working for that company until I retired. I hope that with your temporary working experience, you will be able to move into a permanent position as well. From your blogging, I can tell that you would be a dedicated, reliable and hard-working employee! Bless you for being such a good friend to Linda.

  8. We'll definitely keep both of you in our prayers. I know from personal experience how difficult it is for a 'senior citizen' to lose a job.

  10. You will do well, I think. You will do your best, I know. You have a good heart and a good spirit. You are warm and welcoming. These are exceptional qualities and I know they will come through as you begin this new program. Sometimes we think we are alone and what's happening to us in unique, but as one of my professors said, "Everything we think is so personal is also general," meaning that most of what we think and feel is shared by other people all over the world. I remember reading how a very well-known and magnificent songstress shared that before she could come out on stage she would become so stressed she would get physically sick.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and comment on so many blogs today and know that we'll be thinking of you nd wishing you the very best as you begin this new adventure.

  12. Yes Linda,

    The Unbearable Lightness of Being...

I wish you peaceful, beautiful days.
    I wish you good luck.

When you know someone likes you,
That a friend is always there
    The sun shines much brighter
And there's music in the air.

    When you know someone's listening
    With an understanding heart
    Then life seems much better,
The road is not so hard.

  14. Oh that is hard, but it sounds as though you have a good path ahead of you. Sometimes we just have to stand back and re-group. Lucky friend too, that has your support.
