Remembrance Day

Before I begin my post I wanted to mention that I have added a link at the top right hand side of my blog just beneath the header.  Those who wish to can follow my blog by e-mail.  I will be honest, though, I am not very adept at adding new widgets to my blog as compared to some of you who have been blogging a lot longer, so I do hope that it will work.  :)

I realize that it is early to do this post, as Remembrance Day falls on November 11th, however, I wanted to do it early, so hope you all don't mind.  Not sure if any of you heard about what happened here in Quebec that caused quite an upset among the veterans, but in case you haven't, here is a link to the story.

I hope the link works, because this is the first time I have ever posted a link on my blog as I can recall.  I figured it was best to just provide the link so that you can see the story firsthand.  I would be interested in hearing what you all think.

My father was a veteran and fought in WWII and became a prisoner of war quite early on in the war, so Remembrance Day is important to me.  I don't consider myself patriotic, however, I do feel that our veterans have earned our respect for fighting for our freedom.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here.  I really appreciate reading your thoughts, which you can always share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  2. We don't have Remembrance Day in the Netherlands, Linda. But I think it is valuable. Thanks for your comment on my blog. Greetings, Joke

  4. I'd rather politicians kept their politics and their signs well away from the symbol of respect for those their predecessors sent to war.

  5. I read part of the story, and don't know what the heck the big deal is. Seems like everyone wants to pick a fight about something. So, in the case, everyone forgets about the vets 'cause they're squabbling about something else. Sheesh!

  6. My dad's birthday is Nov 11 - - but he died a few years ago. Although he did not fight in WWII, he was in the Navy for quite a few years.

  7. Perhaps mildly unwise on her part, but also much ado about (next to) nothing.

  8. Here we call it Veteran's Day.

I just noticed, you said you were born in 1956, our first child was born June 1, 1956, second came May 10, 1957, third came July 5, 1958, then I had to have two abdominal surgeries and the fourth came March 7, 1962, things were going along swell, when surprise, our fifth child was born June 27, 1973.

Abe and I both are also on Facebook. Thanks for your visits.

  9. I know what an important symbol the poppy is in connection with Remembrance Day. It's too bad politicians have to spoil everything.
