A Gout Attack

Hi everyone!  The video I have chosen for this post is Guy Lombardo's "My Blackbirds are Bluebirds Now" (1928).  Hope you all enjoy it!

I am not posting any photos this time around, I wanted to let you all know that I have been hit with a gout attack (left foot, big toe).  I have had gout before, it is extremely painful.  To be honest, since I was diagnosed with diverticulitis in August, my appetite has not been the same at all.  I am not eating much, two small meals a day, and I just don't have the same appetite for food as I used to, so this gout attack was a big surprise.  I am going to see a doctor tomorrow, there are meds that reduce the pain and swelling.  I was on medication for the prevention of gout...Allopurinol, but due to lack of funds I had stopped it over a year ago.  Big mistake, I should not have done that...and now I am paying the price for it.  I am on welfare now and thank God all medications are free for those on welfare.

For those who are unfamiliar with what gout is...it is a condition that occurs when the uric acid in your body is unable to eliminate itself, thereby forming crystals which mostly accumulate in the big toe, which causes the swelling and severe pain.

I would really appreciate your prayers and thoughts on my behalf.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I really appreciate your responses to my posts, which you can always do by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.  Sending you all hugs and love.

  8. Oh Linda, I can SO empathize. I've had several attacks (fortunately a number of years ago now) - got it in my left ankle; woke up one morning with what I thought was a sprained ankle. By the next evening I could barely walk and I had to fly on business the next morning for a 4-day trip. Went to a walk-in clinic where the doctor diagnosed me within 2 minutes - prescribed a NSAID (indomethecin) - pain was gone by next morning although the swelling wasn't. I was on allopurinol for quite a few years - had to change my diet somewhat and (luckily) haven't had an attack for a few years.

I pray you'll get the right medication and the pain will soon be gone.

  9. I have a friend who's father suffered from gout for a long period of time. He had been advise to eat cherries, I don't know why cherries, but there must be some kind of chemical in them that helps things out. He was relieved from gout.
