News on the Home Front...and Humour

Hi everyone!  I feel the need to make this post if for no other reason to spread awareness as to the things that are happening at this time in Quebec.  On tonight's local news in Montreal, a franchise owner of a business called Liquid Nutrition is being targeted by the language police OQLF about changing the name of his franchise from Liquid Nutrition to Liquide Nutrition, to make it French.  This requires adding an 'e' at the end of Liquid, which will cost the business owner $10,000.  He is already paying whatever amount to have the name of his business protected as being a trademark.  Sigh.

I saw a segment in a free newspaper the other day which made me laugh, and so much so that I have it on my wall at home.  It is a photo of one of our Quebec politicians, and there are two parts.  The first part has her wearing a crown, and the title is "her aspiration."  The second part has her wearing a Mickey Mouse cap and the title is "her reality".  I put it on my wall in order to help me to see the humour in all of this.  I hope it helps.  :)  So far it is!

Anyway, forgive me for sharing this but I just have to!  In my opinion, all this that is happening right now is going to hurt business owners...and the way I see it is this means that it will ultimately hurt the job market!  The business owner is going to fight this and I wish him the best, really.

The video I am sharing for this post is of a German weather lady...she saw an image of a man on her screen, which wasn't supposed to be there and caused her to laugh...and laugh!  Her laughter is contagious, hope you all enjoy it, it is a very short video.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I really appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you can always share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  2. The fact that there actually are language police is kinda scary! The poor shop-owner has to pay $10,000 to add an "e" to the name? That's as bad as some Scandinavian countries where you can only name your child from an approved list of names.

    1. Thanks for sharing that, Ms. Sparrow. The "language police" are the OQLF http://www.oqlf.gouv.qc.ca/

  3. Weather girl made me laugh... How funny!!!!

That poor business man... That sounds like stuff that is happening to businesses in our country... Things like that are putting small businesses totally out of business... Shame, isn't it? Good Luck to him.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  4. That is so strange, that a business is being required to do such a thing. I hope he can fight it successfully.

That woman's laughter was infectious! Thanks for sharing.

  6. was it really that funny for her? Good thing there wasn't a knock knock joke or they would be there all day.

  7. Re the language police: There seem to be those in every country who really don't like freedom and insist that others follow to the letter what they believe. Often, in this country, they're the ones who speak most often about freedom. I've found, however, that's usually just a ruse to get elected so they can impose their views on the rest of us.

I'm still laughing at the weather person. She's a delight. Merci!

  9. The photo of that man certainly tickled the weather girl's fancy. I hope that business owner doesn't have to add the 'e' to the name of his business.

  10. Don't you love it when someone gets tickled and gets them laughing? It is good for the person doing the laughing, too. Medically it has been proven to improve the physical being. As for government - - - anywhere - - - they get themselves too far removed from reality sometimes.
