Nostalgia is Therapeutic!

Hi everyone!  The video I have chosen for this post is "Memory Lane 1940's."  I loved it and hope you all enjoy it!  It is 6 minutes long but well worth the watch.

I found something today that really boosted my mood.  Nostalgia is good and healthy and is a mood booster.  Funny, I have always felt that it was for myself, as I just love to reminisce about days gone by (the positive, of course), and I have always found that even for a short time it takes me away from the stresses of day to day life...which is much needed and therapeutic for me.  Here is a link of interest.
The Positive Aspects of Nostalgia

In keeping with the nostalgia theme, the photo I am sharing today is one I took a few years ago...after I got permission to enter the elementary school I attended from kindergarten to grade 6!  I told the secretary that I am a former student and that I just wanted to take some photos for nostalgic purposes.  She agreed to allow me to do this.  Here is one of the photos I took...this long hallway has the classrooms of the youngest children.  Quite colourful!  Just walking around that day brought back some good memories for me.  Even though I was in a special class for slow learners from grade 2 right up to high school, I retain some good and positive memories.  Here is the photo.  You just need to click on the image to see a larger view.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  Please feel free to share your positive childhood memories, I would really enjoy hearing them.  You are always welcome to share your thoughts, which I always enjoy reading.  You just need to click on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  2. That is a pretty uplifting school hall! I studied colors and how they affect us once and pink is a 'Happy' color! I do believe it! My sister and I were together this afternoon and we shared some memories. Sometimes the hard memories of unhappy times help us appreciate these happier healthier days as well. We didn't have very many life experiences as children. It was a difficult time and all of us left home at an early age. Still and all......life is what we make it and we as siblings have become strong people.
Louis Dean had a wonderful childhood and I listen to his stories with such awe! He was like a Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Fin and he had so much fun!
Loved your post and now I'm going back to watch the film clip!

    1. Linda, you are right, at least I can speak for myself here. I had some difficult times as a child, and since I have shared them I feel a sense of relief, content and joy. It is like a burden has been lifted off of me. Thank you so much for your comment!

  5. When I visited my old elementary school as an adult, I couldn't believe how small everything seemed. I had remembered the cafeteria as being very large, and it wasn't. The hallways weren't as long as I remembered, either. I guess to my little girl eyes, they were long, though!

  11. Loved the video, Linda. I grew up in the 40s and remember most of what was shown. We had no TV set then, but some of my friends did - great big boxes with a wee screen and all in black and white. But we'd watch the Westerns and game shows. My parents had a 1941 Plymouth, a 1946 Ford, and a 1946 Olds (at different times) - the Oldsmobile was very special as it had automatic shift.

Also in the late 40s I got my first job - delivering papers for the Hollywood Citizen-News. I went from that to delivering papers for the Los Angeles Times which was a better deal as I didn't have to go house-to-house to collect payments. It was from those jobs that I saved enough money to buy my first car in 1953 - a 1937 Chevrolet!

I'm not sure any of my old schools are still standing! :)

Hope you enjoy a fun-filled weekend.

    1. Hi Lowell, thanks for your comment and memories. Actually, this school that I took the photo of is the only school that I attended that is still a school!

  12. Linda, I too enjoyed your video. I was born after the war - in 1945, but basically all my memories are good ones. Life was 'slower' and back then (to me as a child) people were 'content'. And I do remember our first TV ... and my dad's Oldsmobile.

  14. Hi, Linda! On your trip back to your old school did you find yourself thinking that everything had grown smaller? In my childhood memories dimensions are always so much larger than they actually are in real life.
    Much love,

    1. Hi Kim, the only thing that would have looked smaller to me was the classroom desks and chairs, but on this visit I didn't see any classrooms. The hallways are as long as I remember!
