Vintage Radios

Hi everyone!  I once saw a comment on a YouTube video that said vintage radios picked up the AM radio stations better than any radio today!  The video I have chosen for this post is "Collector Donates 100 Vintage Radios".  It is a fascinating video that I really enjoyed and hope you all do as well.  It is a two minute video.

For those of you who have (or who have had) vintage radios, what do you think about them?  Do you prefer the vintage radios over today's radios?  As many of you know I love vintage so you will know my answer to this already.  :)

The photo I am sharing in this post is one I took a few years ago in a nature park.  You just need to click on the image to see a larger view.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I really appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you can always share by clicking on the 'comments'  link at the end of my post.

  1. The vintage radio has a better speaker in it that the new ones today. I plug an old one of my dads in while I was clearing his garage and an hour later it came on and the sound was very strong and clear.

  2. I have a vintage radio reproduction. The sound isn't very good but I love the looks of it so it's displayed prominently in my home.

  4. I Believe L.D. is right about the speakers. I hated parting with my old floor model, but the guy who kept it running passed away and I didn't know anyone at that time to repair it.

  8. this makes me think of my grandfather's vintage radio (and also his record player/turntable thingy). i'm glad we can now just listen to music conveniently on our phones and computers, but radios still sound the best, ya :D

  9. I have two of the reproduction vintage radios. One has a record player, too, that I have started using again, recently. I had forgotten how much I enjoy records!

Growing up, my parents had one of those big console record player/radios. I loved that thing. It quit working, though. I was their late life baby, so my parents were the same age as my friends' grandparents. I'm your age.

  11. At my age, Linda, all my radios from my younger years would be called "vintage." :) But I don't think they sound better than today's radios. Different, maybe, but not better. Just like the old 78 rpm records have a different sound that today's CD's.

The photograph is a winner. Looks like a wonderful lake/nature center to visit during the summer!

  13. Hello Linda, Thank you for visiting my blog. I live in Belgium, so far a way from Canada. In witch part of Canada do you live? Is your language English or French?
I live in Flanders, we speak Dutch (Flemish) in the other part of our small Belgium people speaks French and on the border with Germany, also German. At school we learn Dutch, French, English, German, but some students learn also Spanish.
I'm born in 1939, before worldwar II. But I remember a lot of that time, from about 2.5 year till the end in 1945.
Your photo's and videos are very nice. I like nature also very much. Now we have a long and cold winter. On 21 of March, normaly SPRING has to start. But as you can see we still have snow and during the night it is freezing. But Canada will be much colder, I think, But beautifull. I saw it already on pictures and in documentaires.
