I was Attacked Yesterday

Hello everyone!  The video I have chosen for this post is a 1932 song..."Night and Day", Fred Astaire.

Yes, you read accurately in the title of my post.  I was attacked yesterday...by a gander (male goose), of all things.  :)
See, I was taking a walk in a nature park, minding my own business, or at least I thought I was minding my own business.  I was enjoying the beauty around me and taking photos, right?  Well, there were a pair of geese, and the male thought that perhaps I got a little too close for his liking...and decided to nip at my pant leg.  Fortunately I was wearing jeans, so no harm done.  I obviously backed away and calmly told him that it was "O.K."  He decided that he had taught me a lesson and backed off.  Just before he attacked me, he attacked another, larger, goose!  I am sharing two photos here and you will see that there are a pair of identical geese...one is in front of the other.  The male was in the front, protecting his "lady".  Then you will see a larger goose in the photo (with the orange beak).  He attacked that bird first and then came for me.  :)  You can see in one of the photos that the goose with the orange beak was fluttering her wings and obviously not happy that he attacked her.  I talked with a few guys that work at this nature park and they told me that this gander attacked them as well.  LOL!

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I really appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  1. I'll tell you what, you've got to watch some gooses every minute! Night and day, in fact. (Love that song!)

Seriously, these critters can hurt you. Years ago, at a fishing camp in north Texas, there were some geese who would come after me and bite very hard -- and when I ran they kept running after me. Nasty buggers!

  2. We have geese hanging out near our house lately. Thankfully, they've been pretty friendly.

  3. I love Fred Astaire and Night and Day! I di dn't know that geese were dangerous, we used to keep a couple in the garden when we lived in Bangladesh, my daughter used to play with them even...if I had known! Now we're in Sicily so we don't have that problem, we just have a tiny chihuahua ... but he's dangerous...he'll bite when he's angry:)

  4. My goodness, I am glad you're OK! Sounds like you handled the situation very calmly and well. Maybe the gander was having a bad day. :-)

  6. Geese do that. I once was hit from head to toe by wings because I couldn't back away fast enough. I have given them a wide, wide berth since.

  14. We used to have these geese at the retreat house that did the same thing. They loved to chase you. It was kind of scary, but funny at the same time. Needless to say, we gave them a wide berth.

  16. When my wife was a kid, they had a gander that would hide and attack my wife when he thought she least expected it. What he never figured out was that she ALWAYS expected it and went armed. She said she beat that gander half to death numerous times with brooms, metal wash pans, mops, laundry baskets and so on and he never DID learn his lesson!
