I haven't ever been there Linda, but I did read the book Ann Franks diary, and of course am familiar with the history.
ReplyDeleteThose daisies on your walk were quite lovely.
Cats are quite amazing. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLovely cone flowers, too.
toujours étonnant les chats.
ReplyDeletemerci Linda, et douceur des photos.
Lovely photos and you always find the most interesting videos. I have never visited Auschwitz but my parents did many, many years ago. This was before I met and married my husband over 37 years ago. My sister-in-law just visited Auschwitz on a recent European trip but I haven't been able to ask her about her experience there yet.
ReplyDeleteJust the name "Auschwitz" evokes such depressing mental images. I've never been there. I wouldn't shy away from it, though, if I were in the area. I think it's important that we never forget the horrors of that time. The lovely flowers were a nice, cheery ending to this post.
ReplyDeletenever visited either place.
ReplyDeleteThat is really something about the cat.
ReplyDeleteI have never visited either place. I would like to visit the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. That is so interesting that the cat wants to stay there. Cats, and I think all animals, sense things that we humans cannot. Maybe she is there to be a comfort. Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeletedet er en trist sted !
ReplyDeleteBruno is happy there, and really loves it. So everyone should leave him alone, where he wants to be!! As long as he can find food and water, and he apparently can, because he is quite plump.
ReplyDeleteCats are very intuitive, and what a delight to meet. Love the reflection pic. Greetings from Jean
ReplyDeleteThe place looking comfortable to walk in the pictures, Indeed.
ReplyDeleteWe hope to visit this year-Bruno really does look well fed and she came back so obviously this is her place...
ReplyDeletei've never visited auschwitz, but i've been to amsterdam and the anne frank house. it's an interesting place cos it's sobering but inspiring at the same time... oh, i love your pictures for this post. it looks like summer is in full swing, and all of nature is vibrant and alive!
ReplyDeleteWhile serving in H.M Forces in the 60's I visited the Belsen concentration camp so I got some idea of the atrocities committed.
ReplyDeleteNever been to Poland though.
Love those colors.
I have never been to Europe but may one day.....
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine visited the Anne Frank house and was very moved by the experience. At the time Anne was hiding in the attic, my friend was living in London during the blitz and I was a carefree child riding my tricycle in California.
ReplyDeleteA sad place for the cat to take up residence. I wonder who feeds it?
ReplyDeleteAnimals are amazing. Your photos are beautiful and soothing too! SO nice that you came by for a visit! Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteCreo que todos hemos conocido por las peliculas y documentales los horrores de aquella masacre.
ReplyDeleteEl gato ignora lo que ocurrió en el pasado.
Saludos.
Fresh pictures, Linda !
ReplyDeleteI was years and years ago, at Anne Frank's, Amsterdam.
Lie(f)s.
What beautiful photos Linda. You certainly know how to capture the essence of a setting.
ReplyDeleteI haven't visited Auschwitz and don't think I'd want to. It would be an incredibly difficult experience for me to 'feel' all the agony that went on there to so many people. I am happy that it is there to remind us all never to allow something like this to happen again.
I have never been there Linda , but I have read Anne Frank . It was very moving , I wouldn't mind making a visit to either one of these places though.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures so very Summery :) thanks for sharing Linda .
Such pretty daisy's... I am not sure if i would be able to visit a place that brought so much terror and death . The kitty looks happy and healthy and should be left alone. That is just my opinion. :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos as we have come to expect from you. Interesting story about the cat. It looks well-fed. I have not visited those places but have read lots about them. I do enjoy biographies of that period and am amazed that so many were able to survive such horrors.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing story. I visited Belsen as a child in the late 60's. It was so silent we didn't even hear any birds.

Hello, Linda.
ReplyDeleteI found this post of yours when I was trying to find any news of the Auschwitz cat. God bless Google!
This is a very long story, I'll make it short: I went to Auschwitz nine years ago and I met the cat, we became instant friends. I'll never forgive myself for not taking a single picture of him (wich often happens to me when animals are involved, I have other similar stories in my past). And it seems he is a SHE, after all.
Anyhow, I'll tell you the whole story, if you want, but you can have a glimpse of it in this tag of my almost dead blog:
http://gotaderantanplan.blogspot.pt/search/label/Auschwitz-Birkenau
It is written in Portuguese, maybe you'll get a pale idea with an online translator (good luck, God only knows what will come of that).
You wrote that "Cats are amazing animals and it wouldn't surprise me that this cat senses the horrors that occurred at this place decades ago and feels that she is a sense of comfort and enjoyment to the many visitors that embark on Auschwitz. Whatever her reasons, she is there to stay...by her own choice."
I don't know, it puzzles me. But in the comments box, I then wrote something connecting to that to a friend.
We'll share this later, I hope. :)
