Soothing Waters & About Myself

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!  The video I have chosen for this post is a beautiful 4 minute one entitled "Soothing Waters - Waterfalls".  The image stays the same throughout, so you can listen to it without having to watch it.  Enjoy!

I thought I would take this opportunity to share more about myself.  I am a HSP (highly sensitive person).  Funny, I have never liked concerts or parades, because I cannot stand the loud noise.  If I want to watch either of these things I prefer to watch it at home on the television.  This way I can control the volume and I don't have to deal with the crowds and loud noise.  I have been to a couple of concerts in my younger years and parades as a child but I never could stand the loud noise associated with them.  I realize that this may seem strange to some, but I have always preferred quiet.  :)

I don't smoke or drink alcohol.  Both my parents smoked but I never started.  It never appealed to me.  I never did drugs and I remember as a teenager I was offered to "smoke up" on a few occasions and I always politely declined.

I am an only child.  My mother had four miscarriages before I was born and then she had a son (who would have been my big brother had he lived).  However, Richard died at the tender age of seven months...bronchiole pneumonia.  The doctors told my mother after Richard died (in 1950) that she wouldn't be able to have any children as she had lost all 5!  However, 6 years later she was pregnant with me.  I was only 5 pounds 8 ounces when I was born and the doctors kept an eye on me for a while to make sure that I would not end up like my brother Richard.

When I was 26 my mother died in a convalescent hospital at the age of 67.  She weighed only about 70 pounds at the time of her death.  She died of a stroke;  it was her second one.  When I was 27, just exactly a year and two weeks after the death of my mother, my father died at the age of 64.  He died of a heart attack;  it was his second one.

I enjoy taking walks, as you all know, I enjoy nature sounds, soft music and I enjoy reading as well.  I prefer to read non fiction books and some self help books as well as books like "Chicken Soup for the Soul".

I love to encourage others and do my best to be optimistic.  I struggle with depression but I don't suffer from it.

Well, that about covers about myself for this post.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  1. Thank you for sharing about yourself, Linda. I'm a highly sensitive person, too. I don't like loud noises, bright lights, or crowds. I prefer quiet.

I'm so sorry you lost your parents when you were so young. It must have been so difficult to lose them so close together, too.

You are definitely an encouraging and compassionate person, and I'm glad to have found your blog.

  2. Wow, Linda. Thanks so much for sharing all that. It helps me to feel more connected with you. My mom died of cancer at age 61, when I was 30. Dad lived 11 more years and died of heart disease when I was 41. My only sibling, a brother, died in a car accident when I was 22.

I loved what you said about struggling with depression but not suffering from it. My husband suffered severe depression before becoming a Christian. I think sometimes he still feels some of that struggle you describe, but it doesn't have the control over him that it once did.

Thanks for this glimpse into your life.

  3. You have had a very sad life for such a young person. Well, I say young, but I really don't know how old you are, I just get the feeling you are not middle aged yet. I love the way you say you struggle with it but don't suffer from it. It has not beaten you!!! Your attitude is so sweet, gentle and upbeat, even though you have been through much it has not made you bitter. It looks like you are a miracle child, so I know God has plans for you!!

  5. I am an only child too, however my Mother didn't have such a tragic pregnancy record, you must have been a very precious gift to them! I am sorry to read that you lost them so young, I was 31 and then 37, when they died 6 years apart both were 71 at the time. I still feel bereft without them. I haven't children which most of my only child friends and cousins have-I often wonder???? Thanks for sharing this and a bit of you in each post, I'm always happy to arrive here each visit.

It is nice to learn more about you. Reading this makes me realise how lucky I am, at 50, to have both my parents still here. My daughter got bronchial pneumonia when she was five months old, and it was touch and go for a time, but I suppose we were lucky in that it was 1996, and medicine has progressed a lot since the time your brother had it.
What a terrible time your parents went through, and what an absolute joy it must have been for them to have you.

  10. Loved reading this Linda and thank you so much for sharing. I am not a fan of concerts and loud events either. In fact, I have never been to a concert in my life. I am so sorry that you lost your parents close together like that.

I loved the video...there are few things as soothing as the sound of water...particularly the sound of a soothing stream or brook.

  11. Even with the three children we have a very quiet house. It seems to suit everyone. School started today; my sister and I marvel at the silence they left behind.

How sad that your parents died at such a young age. I, too, prefer peace and quiet. My husband uses head phones when he watches TV out of deference to me. I don't like rock concerts, but do like musicals and operas.

  14. Dear Linda - it is so wonderful you shared these things about yourself-I think that that your high sensitivity to noise and crowds is more common than you think. I have always preferred watching something on tv than being at a live performance. I too find much joy in nature and there is nothing like a walk to sooth the soul.
So very sorry about your parents. I know this must have been such a sad time. You certainly achieve being a wonderful encouragement to others. I always enjoy my visits to your blog. Take care and have a peaceful day.

  18. How about that!!! Turns out unbeknownst to me I'm also a HSP. I don't like loud in any form. People, music, TV, traffic... anything. I retreat to a room with a closed door, trails along a stream, the night, wherever away from crowds and confusion. Well I do like the laughter of children though...:)

  24. Dearest Linda,
Oh, about peaceful and quiet I am there with you!
Nature is so soothing for a walk together and for observing the little wonders around you.
Your Mom had a rough life and so much grief. Both did die young as well and leaving you behind at a still tender age. But you seem to appreciate all the little details more so than others that are not aware of life's struggles.
