Hires Root Beer 1966

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to each and every one of you!  The video I have chosen for this post is a classic television commercial from 1966 for Hires root beer!  It is just one minute in length.  Enjoy!

I am not certain if any of you have ever tried this root beer, but it has quite a kick...and tastes different as opposed to any other root beer, such as A & W.  Hires Root Beer contains ginger!  I only found this out in the last several months when I was doing searches on the web for my favourite things from days gone by.  I have not seen Hires root beer in Montreal for decades!  So....have any of you tried this Hires root beer?  Is it still available in your area?

The photos I am sharing are ones that I took in July of this year.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  1. I remember Hire's Root Beer, but I haven't seen it on store shelves in ages. We don't buy much soda pop, so I might have missed it. Lovely flower photos today!

  2. I don't know if I've ever tried Hire's or not. I never liked root beer very much, but I'd like to try some with ginger in it. I'll have to check out the store and see if we have it around here!

    Lovely flowers!

  4. I do remember the commercial, but I don't drink soft drinks. It seems to me I've seen Hires. Or was it A&W? Sigh. No brand loyalty here.

  5. I have tried it in the past but I don't see it in the stores anymore. The flowers are beautiful.

  6. The orange flower looks tropical and beautiful! The blue ones are Clematis, and the middle one is a coneflower. I remember Hires, but we don't drink root beer so I never look. HEY, I think they sell it at Cracker Barrel, I remember seeing it there. They sell lots of old fashioned candy and drinks there in their gift shop.

  7. Hello Linda, I do remember the Hines root beer but have not seen it since I was a youngster. All I get where I live is A & W root beer and another kind in a bottle at the store. I cannot remember the brand because I seldom drink root beer. Your flowers are beautiful. Did you take the flower pics in the last few days?

    Gros bisous

  12. Don't you just love the old jingles of the old commercials. I don't think I've seen any Hires for many years. Ginny mentioned Cracker Barrel maybe selling it. I was thinking that too but I'm not sure since I think Stewart's Root Beer is what they serve at the table. :)
Your flowers are lovely! My clematis didn't bloom well this year. :(

  15. I enjoyed seeing the pretty flowers. We don't have Hires root beer in the UK, but we do have ginger 'beer'. We used to call it 'ginger pop, when I was a child. It's a non alcoholic drink.

I am not sure if I have ever tried root beer. If I have, I can't remember it.
Beautiful flowers, I still have a few hardy specimens blooming in my garden.

  17. I love watching old commercials. They're fascinating aren't they? I read a book once that was filled with print advertisements throughout the years.

  18. Thank you so much for popping to my blog, and your lovely comments.
Now root beer..................lol.............sorry but I tried it in America and this may sound silly but it tastes like the smell of Germolene to me, which is a brand of antiseptic ointment in the UK, I know that sounds silly but that is what it reminds me of. You have lovely photographs very colourful on your blog.

  22. I've had Hires Root beer before but I can't remember when last and I don't remember seeing it lately either.

    Pretty flowers from summer.

  23. I've never been a root beer person. But if I was, Hires and A&W are the best brands. Everytime I hear an old advertisement from the past, I want to somehow drift myself back into those times.

  24. Ha ha - that commercial was hilarious (dig it, man; groovy ... ;>)

Never did acquire a taste for root beer (what a name when you think about it).

Great flower shots, Linda - brings back the summer.
