A Journey Back in Time

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!  For those of you who are regular followers of my blog, you know that I like to take a journey back in time now and then.  Even though I was born in 1956, I love music even as early as 1900 and as far as the 1970's (yes, I love disco) and 80's, but of course I like good music from any era and culture!

The videos I have chosen for this post are:

A Just for Laughs Gag/Juste pour Rire

Now for the videos that offer a journey back in time. I don't remember any of these TV ads but I do remember many from the 1960's, especially since, thanks to the internet, we are able to find some today from way back.

This first one....it has been quite some time since I have seen an ad for cigarettes...anywhere!  Since we are now aware of the health risks that cigarettes pose, seeing ads for them are pretty much a thing of the past in many places.  I remember cigarettes being sold in pharmacies...until many years ago when it was decided that the role of the pharmacist is to ensure and promote health so they no longer sell cigarettes. Well, at least they don't here in Montreal and probably the rest of Quebec, I can't speak for everywhere else.

1962 Cigarette Ad...Housewives

Vintage Old 1950's Cheer Detergent

Vintage Old 1950's SC Johnson Jubilee Kitchen Cleaner (this reminds me of Vim due to the thickness of it).  I don't remember this, either!

For the following, I am providing the link sources beneath each photo.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share.

  4. I loved the just for laugh's credit card cutting gag. I was born in 1948 but don’t remember any of the ads either. My first ‘TV'’ memories are of the Coronation of the Queen in 1953 and the kid's programmes – things like Andy Pandy and Rag, Tag and Bobtail.

  5. Watching the cigatette ad really shows how the world has changed. Nowadays in Finland even buying them is not easy.

  6. I was born in 1971, so I don't remember seeing ads like that, but it's fantastic to see now. I love vintage things, and also to see how life was then and how advertisement was in those days. Fantastic videos!
The dog in the first picture is so beautiful and adorable, great quote too!
    Have a nice weekend,
    greetings, Vanessa

  8. Yes, I 've gone through the disco era too, have always loved music...from the 60's to this present day. Still keeping up with the times.

  11. The dog on the first quote looks so cute and adorable. It's true that we should never give up on the people we love. But there are times when we have to let go too for both our good and their good. Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

  14. It is great to look back and see all those old commercials... :)

I am pretty sure all pharmacies in Canada don't sell cigarettes, we have not sold them for many years in Nova Scotia...;)

  15. Oh my goodness, I don't remember any of them either, but what fun, thank you for sharing these. I especially enjoyed the credit card cutting, and half to watch it again. The people were just priceless in their expressions, and the cutter, he was perfect!

  16. I'd never seen any of those commercials-I don't ever remember seeing cigarettes advertised in Canada, were they? Loved all of the quotes today...especially the last one.

  17. I think the only real ads for cigarettes that I can remember seeing were on magazines... and even that has been gone for fifteen years or so. Aside from that, there were sponsorships with just the company name on various events, but that fell by the wayside too.

Very nice those old commercials Linda. I am of 1943, and the music in my teenage years came from Elivis Presley, Pat Boone and others.

  21. thanks for sharing those ads ... they're before my time, but they're a fascinating historical showcase ... it's interesting to see how much things have changed over the decades :)

Cigarettes are not sold in pharmacies here in B.C. either. In fact, there are no cigarette ads anywhere and when they are sold they are in hidden cupboards so minors don't see them.

It was really strange to watch that Raleigh cigarette ad. Thanks goodness they're now banned, as is smoking in public places. :)

  29. What a hoot to see the old ads. That Cheer ad brought back memories; I could just see the old boxes. I've had great laughs with the gag videos, especially the grim deeper one! Priceless. I loved your fountain water and rose photos, Linda! Take care!

  32. Hi. Thanks so much for visiting us. I enjoyed the vintage commercials. I'm not sure about all pharmacies in the U. S., but one particular one that's a big chain just now stopped selling cigarettes and is using that as a bragging point. It does seem funny that in this day and age pharmacies would still be selling cigarettes.

    These are some great quotes!
