Merry Monday and Living in the Moment

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!

I wanted to share something with you all.  On Saturday, I went with my friend and her husband to visit her mother, who is 91.  She resides in a place for senior citizens who have various health issues from Alzheimer's to whatever.  My friend's mother has Alzheimer's but I think she looks very good for 91, and she doesn't seem to be as advanced in her Alzheimer's as I know that some people are, so she is pretty alert and can carry on a conversation.  I love her, she is such a sweet woman!

Anyway, the reason I am sharing this is because when I was there, there was also a gentleman who used to be a doctor (a surgeon, I am told).  He doesn't have Alzheimer's, but I haven't found out yet what his health issues are.  Apparently he was an excellent doctor and saved many lives.  I found it so sad to see him, as he was sitting at a table and had his arms folded on the table and his head was buried in his arms.  Almost as if he was saying to himself, "What did I do to end up here?"  I wanted to share this because I think it is so important to live in the moment and appreciate the people we have in our lives and the things we have (a job, roof over our heads, food in our stomachs, etc.), as we just never know if, or when, something like this could happen to us.  Thank you so much for listening.

The videos I have chosen for this post are:

A lot of the pain that we are dealing with are really only thoughts.

Whatever life may send your way - make the best of it.  Don't waste your time and energy worrying about it.  Instead, find a way to do something about it. Learn from it, adjust to it, be strong, be flexible and be your best in every situation. - Les Brown

Give thanks.  Be kind.  Stay honest.  Laugh often. Be grateful.  Smile daily.  Be generous.  Love with all your heart.

Give extra love to the young ones today.  They need us.

If they miss you, they'll call.  If they want you, they'll say it.  If they care, they'll show it.  And if not, they aren't worth your time.

  5. Words so true, last Friday 2 friends and I visited a mutual friend who is close to death, she has Alzheimers, and we sat, had some tears, prayed, and all of us felt comfort for each and every one there. On Saturday my long time friend of 64 years, her husband died, on Sunday a neighbour died on his way to hospital via ambulance. And with Hugh's surgery over, I value every day, Carpe Diem.

  11. that's a sobering reminder about the effects of age on us ... my grandmother is in her 90s, and she does suffer from hearing problems and she often forgets things a lot. it's difficult, and i do agree that we should appreciate and treasure the health we have now.

  18. Hi, dear Linda! That Montreal gag team is so well known all over the world that they might soon run out of people to prank. :) Your story about the doctor in the nursing home is a sad reminder that we have the ability to prolong life but that we are mortal and not invincible. I was very touched by the vignette "A simple act of kindness creates an endless ripple." I hope everyone around the world catches on to the power and joy of committing random acts of kindness.

    Thank you, dear friend Linda!

  19. Dear Linda, In this post your videos and pictures are interesting as always, but what is exceptionally fine is to read your thoughts about the visit to the hospital. You are so right! We take so much for granted! Especially those of us in North America have so much to be thankful for. Let us recognize it!!! Thanks so much for sharing!

  21. The "act of kindness" video was very touching. We may never know in this life what impact we have on the lives of others, good or bad. May we do our best to be sure that that impact is good.

  22. Hi Linda! I wish they could find a cure for Alzheimer's disease or even a prevention. The story of the doctor is really sad and there must be many others like that. The sayings are touching!
    Have a nice week!

  24. Thank you for sharing, Linda! Your sentiments are so true. Many of us are homebound without many visitors, but we can always somehow make life fulfilling and find things to enjoy during our lives. Perhaps it is an attitude of appreciation and thankfulness that helps us when things are so depressing or discouraging.

One thing I learned upon quitting my job for health reasons was that we tend to be wrapped up in what we do rather than in who we are. When asked to tell about ourselves, we mention what we do for a "job", if we are married, have children, etc etc, but seldom do we actually share about our characteristics, and the deeper essence of our being.

It was a lesson that took some 6 months for me to come to terms with after leaving my job and finding myself alone during the days. This was before the internet. We live out in the sticks and I was not able to drive. Everyone else was very busy with normal stuff - but I consider it a gift - this gift of self-discovery and probably would not have occurred as deeply as it did had my health not failed.

I was also able to discover little ways of volunteering and cheering others up during those days. Thanks for letting me share, and for offering encouraging and thought-provoking goodies for us. xo

  28. Yes, living in the moment is so important. In OCD treatment, we are taught this over and over again. Thanks for this great reminder. (How sad for that man, though.)

  29. The circle of life is a natural thing. We are young an vibrant then we age and become less and less vibrant. We much enjoy each day.

    Loved the gag.

Oh the summer video. All those boats. I smiled when I saw the boats.

The last video is fabulous. I've seen it many times before. Paying it forward is a wonderful thing.

Have a fabulous day Linda. ☺

  30. Thanks for your personal story about the retirement home. We should all remember to be thankful for what we have. You never know when or how it will end. I feel sad for older people who don't have family or friends to come visit them.
