Remembrance Day...Lest We Forget

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!
I am remembering my dear father and all other veterans who fought for our freedom.  As such, I have added a couple of extra videos, two of which are in honour of Remembrance Day.  Thank you in advance for taking a moment in silence to remember the veterans who sacrificed so much so that we may be free and live in peace.  I hope you enjoy the two videos I am sharing in commemoration of this special day...less we forget.

The videos I have chosen for this post are:

A Just for Laughs Gag/Juste pour Rire

Bell Canada Remembrance Day TV Commercial: Poppy (this is a new TV commercial that just came out to commemorate Remembrance Day.  I think Bell Canada did an excellent job on this and I hope you are all as touched by it as I am)

90-Year-Old Veteran Returns Home after Normandy Adventure

Mr. Bean - Taking the Stairs

Vintage Gas Stations

Most Luxurious Bus - Luxury Travel Destinations in India on a Bus

For the following, I am providing the link sources beneath each photo.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

You have to find happiness in yourself before you can find it with someone.

To be both strong and soft is beautiful and powerful.

Life is short.  So do the things which make you happy. And be with people who make you happy. Look for the good in every day - even if some days you have to look harder.

The past is your lesson.  The present is your gift. The future is your motivation.

Life is short.  Smile while you still have teeth.

Warning!  During a crisis, obstacles to happiness often appear larger than they truly are.

You have to fight through some bad days to get to the best days of your life.

Guilt, regret, grievances, sadness, bitterness, non-forgiveness = too much past, not enough presence.
Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry, all forms of fear = too much future, not enough presence.

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind. - Dr. Seuss

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share!

  2. Good morning, dear Linda!

Thank you for leading us into this day of Remembrance. As I watched the Bell Canada spot "Poppy" I wondered how many of today's very young people care that deeply about the veterans of 20th century wars. I hope there are many. I was touched by the story of the 90 year old vet who made a pilgrimage to the Normandy ceremonies alone. The latest clip of Mr. Bean made me laugh out loud. Bean doesn't seem like a good fit for martial arts. I thoroughly enjoyed the piece about vintage filling stations. In 1955 my older brother went to work at a Flying-A gas station near our home. He later operated his own garage and towing service for many years. The amenities offered aboard that luxury bus are astonishing. I'd love to take a trip on one someday.

Thank you very much, dear friend Linda. I am taking a four day break from blogging now and hope to rejoin you here Sunday night at midnight. Take care and God bless!

  6. Well, Linda, that Bell Canada advert is amazing - really moving. I hope it helps younger people better understand the path that stretches back behind them. I'm assuming the 'In Flander's Field' museum referred to is the one in Ypres, Belgium - it is an impressive place - but the whole area is. As for the veteran that did a bunk - worthy of the best traditions of escaped POWs! - that raised a bit of a laugh over here when it happened. Everyone thought, 'what a guy' - as they all were. Thanks for those videos; nicely done.

  18. Remembrance Day...Lest We Forget . I hope that the young people can understand what this really is. I worry about this as time goes on. Our world is a dangerous place and those in the world have to remember what took place in the past so that it will never take place again. I pray that people can remember.

Have a beautiful Remembrance Day Linda. See ya.

  19. Good quote about obstacles in a crisis appearing larger than they really are.
I love it how the lady in the green in the gag just started laughing, and that one man actually tried to catch the toast/bagels. I remember in I Love Lucy the Ricardos had a similar toaster that sent the toast way up, but I don't think it was quite as powerful, and Lucy always seemed to manage to catch the toast.

The veterans commercials were sweet and tear-jerking, and I think it's wonderful how the ferry has offered the elderly gentleman a free pass to any future D-Day events he may wish to attend. It sounds like he certainly got everyone worried about him. Unfortunately though sometimes it does work better though to ask for forgiveness instead of asking for permission. ;) Glad he called home at least. And glad we have a day to remember our veterans.

  20. Your videos on this Veterans day were very heart warming. My dad fought in WW1 and my uncle in WW2 . My husband in the Korean War. Many of my other cousins served also. I thank each and every one that has served and are serving for their service. Great post and great quotes. Have a blessed day. Madeline

  29. Oh that was a very emotional post- both feeling grateful for the people fighting for our freedom, my granddad being one of them- he was in the resistance movement and never forgot, and neither should we! Lovely tribute! And then the uplifting quotes made me smile, feeling grateful and happy - thank you for that:-) Big hugs

    Saludos.

  40. I do have quite a different view on Remembrance Day, L ... thus I do not wear the poppy and do not stand in silence on the 11th at 1100o'clock ... because it all accumulates to more resentment and confusion between peoples ... let war bygones be war bygones ... or it will never end ... for instance: I am a Eastern European gypsy woman with Jewish blood ... many of my family perished in WW2 ... still, I want my kids to be free and proud Canadians ... they deserve a bright future ... hmmm?
