Thursday Thoughts and Something that I don't Like

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!
Well, we all know that nobody is perfect, and that we all do and say things that we later regret.  So why is it that some people, more than others, feel the need to badmouth others and gossip to others about others?  It saddens me deeply, especially when I see it happening among friends and family.  I think part of the reason people gossip is that it somehow makes them feel better about themselves.  But what some don't realize is that what you do to others comes back to you.  Perhaps not right away, and perhaps not in a way we might expect, but it does.
I am a fan of the Pioneer Woman, I love the show and I love her cooking skills and tips, as well as enthusiasm.  One day I came across some very negative comments about her on the internet.  Some people were saying how fake Ree Drummond is and I was tempted to respond in her defense but realized that perhaps my response would have been for naught.  Some people just want to talk badly about others, but what they don't realize is by doing this they are really talking badly about themselves, because they lack confidence and don't feel good about themselves, which is why they gossip in the first place.  It takes the focus off of themselves and puts it on others whom they choose to talk badly about. Thanks so much for listening.

The videos I have selected for this post are:

Hard times will always reveal true friends.

Secrets and lies kill relationships.  No matter how careful you are, you will get caught.

Thoughts are like seeds that grow in your mind...once they take root and are given light they will flourish.  It is up to you to choose whether they will be weeds or flowers.

If it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them.  Don't let them suffer...bring them indoors!  If you see an animal left outside without adequate food, shelter and water, report it to your local authorities and save a life!

Friendly reminder:  it's perfectly okay if the only exercise you get today is flipping the pages of a book or stirring your tea or smiling with friends.  Wellbeing means your WHOLE body.  Make sure your soul is getting as much exercise as your glutes.

Every day, think as you wake up "today I am fortunate to be alive.  I have a precious human life. I'm not going to waste it.  I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others, to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings.  I am going to have kind thoughts towards others.  I am not going to get angry or think badly about others.  I am going to benefit others as much as I can. - Dalai Lama

You have this one life!  How to you want to spend it? Apologizing?  Regretting?  Questioning?  Hating yourself?  Running after people who don't see you? Be brave.  Believe in yourself.  Do what feel good. Take risks.  You have this one life.  Make yourself proud.

  1. Good morning, dear Linda!

I agree with you that gossip is poison to those who spread it around as well as those on the receiving end of it. The gag video was a study in human nature. When people see a man in handcuffs they automatically assume that he has broken the law and might be dangerous and they distance themselves. I will show Mrs. Shady the demonstration on how to stuff a roasted chicken. Our son-in-law is an avid cook and insists on baking stuffing outside the bird, claiming it is unhealthy to bake it the traditional manner. It is so very sad to see homeless people, some of them lying unconscious on the sidewalk. A Christmas care package is a welcome gift but offers no permanent solution to their plight. The Mr. Bean nativity sketch was more bizarre than humorous, in my opinion.

Thank you very much, dear friend Linda!

  4. Jealousy, envy...one of the seven cardinal sins...but forgive them for they know not what they're doing and hopefully, He will forgive us for our sins as well.

  5. Hi Linda. It feels so good to spend some time reading your posts from yesterday and today. I've been reeling all day from the events in San Bernadino, a place I've driven through many times. I'm as shocked as I was with the Columbine and Aurora theater shootings which were very close to home for me. You, dear Linda, remind me that there is goodness and light in the world, and I am so grateful for that! Hugs! Take care.

  13. It seems that for everyone who tries to build there are those who try to tear down. I don't know if it's a cosmic balance thing or not. The internet has given many individual free rein to make horrible statements seemingly without consequence. All we can do is not fan the flames. 'Trolls' post for the the sole reason of getting everyone riled up.

  19. Never unlock handcuffs on a man who appears out of nowhere. He could be up to no good or just a comedian! Speaking of stuffing, I often like that better than the bird! Lots of great posters. Hope you have a wonderful day and never listen to the gossips and those who would bring you down.

Loved the video. Those folks were pretty scared of that handcuffed guy.

  29. How refreshing to hear someone say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays," ... and a great idea for helping the homeless.
Of course, there's nothing like Mr. Bean to lighten the mood. Wish there were more Mr. Bean's around.
What a great collection, Linda. Thank you!!
(I like Pioneer Woman, too & agree with your comments about gossip.)

  30. My dear Linda, it, too, breaks my heart to hear other talk badly about someone. I think you are right, it somehow makes them "feel" better about themselves, but in reality they are only doing more damage. Words truly do hurt and many times the Lord reminds me to speak kindly and in love....and if I can't do that than to simply keep my mouth shut! With God's grace we can practice this :)

    Bless you, sweet friend. Hugs!

  31. Hello Linda,
I always enjoy your life-affirming quotes - I may not always agree with the quotes but find them interesting and many of them I do agree with.
Thanks very much for the nice comments you leave on my blog, they are very much appreciated.

  32. Linda, as you know, I'm probably one of Ree Drummond's biggest fans. I started reading her blog almost eight years ago, including going back to read everything she had written before I found her blog. I can't imagine anyone more genuine. I'm sure she's had to develop a tough skin since her blog has put her in the limelight as an author of cookbooks, children's books, and a Food Network celebrity, not to mention her own autobiographical book about her love story with her husband. People can be cruel, and it seems to be a rising trend these days. I'm glad you didn't waste your time trying to defend her against the nastiness on the internet. God will make things right in His time.

  33. Your insights are spot on Linda. I never understand the negative commenters online. Who has time to say so many bad things about people they don't even know? We are all carrying our own private burdens and I just always try to remember that. Hope all is well with you!

  34. I hate it when people talk about other people.

    ReplyDelete
  35. So often negativity is contagious. Lately I've suffered an awful betrayal...some quickly jump on the bandwagon and make it worse. God save us from being that way.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hi Linda, I usually find those sorts of comments are more a reflection on the person commenting than the person being talked negatively about. Poor them! If they can only find the bad in others, imagine what they think of themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I don't engage in gossip, it's such a waste of time x

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi, Linda. I agree with your sentiments regarding people who speak negatively. I have also learned that people believe what they want to believe, regardless of the facts. Thanks for the words of wisdom today!
Hope you have a fantastic weekend! Hugs, de

  39. Mr Bean! How delightful I also enjoyed the quote about being tourists and standing strong after we fall.

That is so sad about that gossip. I don't know that lady but I tend to think that everyone has their own pitfalls and challenges that others can dig into which in a way makes us all imperfect and equal, so really gossip shouldn't exist! but it does... You are so right about it reflecting on the speakers more than the subject.

  40. The Giving to the Homeless video was beautiful. Now I want to do this.

  41. I've been on the other side of intense gossip before and it does not feel good. It tends to make you paranoid, too. You hear things are being said and you blow it up to the point that you're sure everyone in the world is talking about you. It makes me glad I work from home now and most people I know don't find me interesting enough to talk about me these days!

  42. Thanks...will have to d9 some "weeding" in my mind ☺

    Have a great weekend Linda
