This Winter

Hello everyone!  I mentioned in my last post that I have gone through a terrible period of depression over the last few weeks and that I am just starting to feel a little better, but the road is long.

Have any of you experienced similar this winter? Even though I love the winter I have to admit that I have found this particular winter terribly draining. Lots of ice, slush, snow, rain, freezing rain, and we had a couple of really, really cold days with warnings of frostbite. Yes, the snow removal crews have been out there, but (and I can speak just for Montreal), the removal had been quite slow and haphazard in some areas, making it very difficult to walk and get around, not to mention dangerous.

Usually I don't experience depression of this magnitude, and certainly not only the winter, but this winter has been really difficult for me.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and thoughts on my behalf, I really appreciate them...and you! Your comments have touched me deeply, thank you! I am still not really up to blogging but thought I would make a post about this.  Thank you so much for listening.

  6. Hi Linda
We have had snow and rain, three weeks of extreme cold, snow and rain again, this time a "good" weather -2 degrees celcius, and sunny.
By the way, you have a good translator, much better than the google translator

  7. Linda I totally understand where you're coming from, last year's winter almost pushed me over the edge. It was never ending snow, color and ice. This year has been much better and I'm so grateful it is... emotionally I couldn't have taken another one.I truly hope you feel more like yourself xox ♡♡♡

  8. Dear Linda You are going to be fine. Winter is almost over and spring is right around the corner. I do understand how winter can affect our spirits. For some reason gray days make me feel low too. So today friend I am looking up for you. Hope you are seeing some sunshine. Hugs!

  10. Hi Linda. I do get depressed in the Winter. For me, it is lack of sunshine. This has been a mild winter here in NW Pennsylvania. Nonetheless I will be very happy when Spring arrives and the temperature gets warmer (and stays warm) and the days get longer.

  11. Thanks for the update. Glad you are recovering. Hang in there! Spring is right around the corner! Know that you have lots of friends out here in blogland that are supporting you.

  13. The dreariness of winter can affect even those for whom depression is not usually a problem. I usually feel it in a lack of energy and motivation. (My own blog lay dormant for a couple of months.) So you take your time to get your blogging motivation back. Your friends will be waiting and praying.

  14. Hello, I do find the dreary weather to be depressing. I tend to hybernate in the winter and long for sunny warm days. I hope you feel better soon, take care. Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!

  15. The last several years, I have found Winter to be a difficult time as well. Although I struggle with depression overall anyway, so Winter tends to be an additional trigger. Thankfully, we are nearing the end of Winter soon! Glad to hear from you again. Hang in there, my friend.

  19. Glad u are coming out of it a bit. I use to get pretty blah - not sure it was a depression though - during winter and i do get so tired of dull days. When spring shows up like it seems to have here already - i get my energy back and lighter mood. Hope u get lots of sunshine to help lift you.

  20. Winter is often a difficult time for people, especially around the holidays. And there's no getting around the fact that it is cold, grey, dreary and often the world is covered in snow which as you say too soon turns to slush.

I have found Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" to be helpful when I've felt depressed.

Best wishes to you. And thank you so much for all your kind comments on my blogs!

  21. Hi Linda, winters in my neck of the woods are not as bad as most of the rest of Canada. This year it seems like we've had more sun and no snow. Last few years we've been getting more snow and it stays longer but not this year. We did get a lot of rain though it didn't go on for weeks and weeks as it normally does. It just rained a LOT when it did rain. I find when it rains for 2 weeks straight I do get down especially because the sun does not come out at all. Thankfully this year was better with more sunny breaks. I hope you continue to feel better and better each day.

  23. Dearest Linda - our winters have been mild this year... But any season becomes dreary and full of drudgery when sunshine is absent, and our body's chemicals are out of balance. So sorry this bout is taking a long time to abate. Sending my love and sunshine to you, sweet friend. Hugs, de

  24. This winter is really long and dragging. Here in Toronto, we had spring weather during the weekend. Then winter is back again with a snow storm here tomorrow. There is always the hope that Spring will come soon.

    Gros bisous ♡

  30. I have a UV allergy, so the sun is not my friend and grey days are good for me. My mom hated grey days they made her feel very low. Several friends also have this problem. I know you can get a SAD light (SAD = Seasonal Affective Disorder) Its a very very bright light you use 1/2 hour a few times a day, they are not cheap but my friends who use them said the light has worked for them.
Hoping your feeling better, spring is no it's way.

  31. Hello Linda, winter will soon be over and spring will come. Life sometimes can be tough especially when the circumstances or weather is not helping. Blessing you with love, peace and hope! Hugs.

  32. This winter we have had here in Espoo also all kind of weather, and I also had felt that the winter has been very long. Luckily the spring is coming.

A big hug, You are in my mind:)

  33. Don't worry my friend. Spring is near and we all enjoy the sun & warmth again. I find winter time and tough time and this year was confusing. El Nino screwed me up with the mixing of the weather. Snow, warm weather, cold weather rain, snow and back again. My cruise this year was OK but I got sick during the cruise and I got brockitist and and I;m still having a problem with this silly cough. Keep strong and soon the summer will be here. See ya my friend.

  35. I'm fortunate, I do not get depressed a bit down and out especially when the sun goes away for long periods. My Father and a cousin however did/do suffer so I've a tiny glimpse into its effects. Take care, hope you are feeling better and soon! hugs

  41. Bonjour Linda, vers la fin de l'hiver, c'est toujours une période plus creuse, il est temps que le printemps se pointe le bout du nez pour nous donner un bon coup d'énergie!!! Prend bien soin de toi ma belle amie, gros bisou!

  42. Yes, Linda this winter was very very difficult for me too, and I feel fortunate to have gotten through it at all. The weather was not so much a big factor, except getting stuck indoors much of the time. This has to have been nevertheless one of the darkest times I have experienced, in which I have had not so much hope as before. I am glad you can talk about it--too often people end up truly isolated in their distress. I'm glad we have survived though, and I hope the best for everyone that has such difficulties. Best Always, Reifyn

  43. Dear Linda, I’m so sorry to read about your struggles with depression I know only too well how difficult it can be. Thankfully, I’ve not suffered from it for a few years but when it descends it is incredibly difficult to deal with.
I’ve not been over to see you because I didn’t blog for two months, but I started again in February and am gradually catching up with all my blogging friends.
Take really good care of yourself and just think the sun will be shining soon. Barbara x

  46. Oh, my friend, I'm praying for you. Sorry I have been out of the loop, too. I understand that blogging has to take a backseat at times but I hope you soon return with all your positive vibes and fun stuff. I love it and it has helped turn my mood around more than once. Love ya!

  47. OMG, Dear Linda! I do hope that you will get on top of it. I have just emerged from a black hole myself, so black that I completely dropped out of the Online world! You give so much to everyone with your inspiring posts, and I have missed them; but I just couldn't even look at my blog, let alone anyone else's. Isn't that weird ~ just when we need our friends the most, we drop out when we're depressed. I hope this doesn't happen again for me. It's been a while since I've fallen into such a black hole. Sending you love and hugs ~ big ones! Now I'm going to go back and read your post from yesterday!

I hit a bit of a slump around this time of year, so ready for the cold to go away and the warmth to return. You are not alone, many are affected by the lack of sunshine, as is my brother and a friend of my daughter. They get a special "daylight" lamp to help.
