I have always enjoyed having things organized and being organized. I love colour coding, putting things in the right place and knowing where things are. I can't say that I am obsessed with it, but I very much enjoy it. I don't HAVE to have things organized, but I enjoy the project of creating an organized and comfortable space, both for myself and for others. I found some photos that I thought I would share with you all.
I have always disliked clutter and feel overwhelmed and stressed amongst clutter. My living space is very UNcluttered, with just what I need and that makes me feel happy and relaxed. I don't have a lot of furniture or "things", but for myself, I am happy with what I do have and appreciate and enjoy it. I prefer less things and having more space to move and relax.
I think this is a really neat idea...colour coding cords. It looks attractive and it is easy to see which one is which rather than having a jumbled mess.
This next photo is brilliant, I think. I always encourage my friends to "purge". My personal rule is that if it is something I haven't used in a year, throw it out (if it is in bad shape) or donate it! Another rule I have is what I call the "one in one out rule." Let's say I purchase a new pair of pants. I always look to see if there is something I can get rid of so that I don't end up having really much more than I need. It is nice to buy things on sale, but if it is taking up too much space in your house then you are better off getting a few as opposed to a large amount.
This last photo...I think it is really neat to have a section for children. For example, you can assign each child his or her own colour. Some people have a system near the front entrance where the children have their own hanger, with their names and respective colours. When they come in from school, they take off their coats, etc., and put it into the correct place. As well, each child has his or her own bin...same colour that has been assigned to them, and they can use it to clean up their rooms by gathering things off the bed, floor, etc., and putting the items into the bin...they putting them where they belong.
Thank you all so much for visiting me here, and I look forward to your thoughts. Please click on the "comments" link at the end of my post to share.
My wife would love your ideas, though she has WAY too much "stuff" to ever use them.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Perfect. I love it. Now if this attitude can be engendered by a pill I need a case of them for my spouse.....
ReplyDeleteYou and I are exactly alike in this respect! I cannot stand to have mess of any kind around me, must have everything open, airy, neat and in order. Maybe because my mom was the opposite and always running around because she couldn't find anything. So as a tiny girl I started picking up and neatning the house. If I am nervous, it really relaxes me to straighten out the cabinets or clean out drawers, like therapy.
ReplyDeleteYou must be hard to live with, I would scatter things about.
ReplyDeleteIt so funny how people who clutter find it hard living with those who are neat. LOL!
DeleteI used to work in a store and my lady boss had the same way about her as I as far as keeping things organized and neat. She and I got along so well. In fact, I was the only employee out of 5 whom she would "allow" to come to her home and organize her files there. She and her husband would make a nice lunch for me and I would get all her bills in order for her.
ReplyDeleteI love to have an organized home, too. Thanks for sharing the tips. I actually enjoy organizing and as you say, it makes me feel more comfy to live in order!!!
ReplyDeleteLinda, I think this could be a Scorpio thing as well - I love organising stuff, and really like knowing where everything is.. Unfortunately, in my current home, it's pretty impossible as I don't have furniture or proper storage for anything, but when I move out of here (hopefully late this year), I'm really looking forward to having a super-organised home.
