Tuesday Choices and my Christmas Shopping Poll

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!
Something I forgot to mention in yesterday's post when I mentioned that the retailers here in Montreal are struggling and closing their doors is that many stores (and not only stores, too, many public places) are not accessible to the disabled.  Here in Quebec, working dogs are allowed in buses, restaurants and stores and pretty much any public place, as they are there to help a disabled individual see, hear, and sometimes these dogs even help someone who has epilepsy in that they can warn the owner when a seizure is about to occur.  I especially feel for those who are in wheelchairs, because many public places are not accessible with ramps and do not have a flat entrance.  Wherever stairs are present with no ramp you know that a person using a wheelchair cannot access it.  Another factor is that when people shop online, it is safer (no violence like what happens on Black Friday) and if you are using a debit or credit card, you don't have people looking over your shoulder to try and get your pin number. Anyway, I just wanted to add this. Thanks so much for listening.  :)

The videos I have chosen for this post are:

A Just for Laughs Gag/Juste pour Rire

Beautiful Views of Mother Nature

M&S Gift - Christmas Present Wrapping Ideas

Alonnisos Old Village

The Ice Hotel - Quebec (even though I have lived in Quebec all my life I have to say that I have never visited this hotel.  However, a friend of mine did and told me it was amazing!)  :)

For the following, I am providing the link sources beneath each photo.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

    Coucou Linda

  4. Good morning, dear Linda!

The pranksters' porta-potty got pressed into service yet again. I loved the looks on the faces when the woman emerged covered with soot. I enjoyed the beautiful views of mother nature - the mountains, fields, flowers and cascading waterfalls. I only wish the piece had used natural sound instead of music. It amazed me to see how irregular shaped Christmas gifts can be wrapped - pleats on the end of a circular object and a festive holiday bag made from a box. My favorite video was the Ice Hotel located near you. Mrs. Shady and I know of another ice lodge in Finland and would love to visit a place like that. Surely it would be great fun to drink from an ice glass and admire the magnificent architecture and sculpture.

Thank you very much, dear friend Linda!

Some years ago, the UK government had it compulsory for all new builds and government buildings wheelchair accessible.

It is unfortunate that there are shops where people with disabilities can not go inside Linda.

  12. Take and enjoy...I like that.
Dogs are not permitted in our city, except Guide Dogs...
Other places except our backyards, everyone must have their dog/s on a leash...

  14. ... my black lab Piwo never left my side, in fact at times he kept walking so close to me, that I stumbled and stepped on him ... hours and sometimes even days before I would fall sick with migraine pain ... Piwo is gone now , but now my cat Theo warns me too ...by sitting on the kitchen counter and staring at me ...

  15. Visiting the ice hotel is on my list of things I'd love to do. Montreal is one of my favourite cities and it's too bad that the shops are closing. I buy both online and in stores and it seems to me that we will always need both.

  20. Hi, Linda - wonderful thoughts today, and good ways in which we can all grow to be better individuals, contributing more to those around us. It is sad to see long-time/historic businesses having to move, but it is also important for things to be handicap accessible as well. Hard to know where a good balance is, right? Blessings to you, my friend. hugs, de

  23. I'm a civil engineer and work for a local government. One of my jobs is to design curb ramps to ensure that the disabled can cross the street safely. I'm well versed on the Americans with Disabilities Act and I also agree that more access must be created for the disabled. I'm happy to see you pointing out one of the problems people in wheelchairs face.

  24. Loved the gag. The looks on their faces is the very best of all.

I hate the cold so the ice hotel wouldn't be some place I would want to go. Beautiful, but at a distance.

Have a fabulous day Linda. ☺

  32. Are the retailers of Montreal unable or unwilling to make their stores barrier free? I know it is a very old city and I imagine some stores are not able to make their stores accessible.

    ReplyDelete
  33. That's too bad for Montreal economically. It is the modern times now. Quebec has to adapt to providing accessibility to the disabled in order to I improve its economy and to be more diverse.

  34. "A lie repeated many times doesn't change the truth." True, but a repeated lie still manages to convince many people that it is the truth. Hitler knew that and used it effectively. Our politicians also know it and use it today.

  37. I've got some catching up to do, because I haven't been able to get around to my favorite blogs, Linda. I've been listening to CNBC, the business channel, and retailers are worried everywhere about fewer people coming to the malls. I haven't read your post from yesterday, but I would say that I never have enjoyed going to the malls. For me, it's a half hour drive each way, over winter roads. I have to walk around and around forever looking for something, and maybe I won't find it. There are a few stores I like to go to, like Apple and a bookstore, but that's it. So I'll mostly be shopping on line. I learned a few things from the gift wrapping video. Have a lovely evening, dear Linda! I'll be back to catch up! Thanks for your kind words on my blog today. Hugs!

  38. When I was in college, the president of the university spent the day in a wheelchair, rolling around campus. By doing this, he was able to identify all the areas that weren't accessible. I think city mayors should do that...and maybe business owners, too!

  39. The wrapping looks so pretty. I've tried however in recent years to do away with unnecessary wrapping that just ends up in the trash or recycling anyway, and have found some great ideas online.

  40. Hi Linda. Once again you have made my day :-) Happy December to you!!!!

  41. I took care of Mom for two and a half years while she was in a wheelchair. It was a challenge to get her in and out of a car for transportation, but I was lucky that many places we wanted to go could accommodate her. That's probably because we are in a newer town. Quebec probably has lots of historic buildings that haven't been upgraded. - Margy

  42. My favorite poster is the " mood poisoning " one. I love that and it is so true. I have to be careful about not letting things I can't do anything about, but that I hate, spoil my whole entire day!
