Vintage Bedding

I remember the sheets, pillow cases and blankets on my bed...and my parents' bed when I was growing up. Here in Canada there was a product line by Texmade.  They sold blankets and sheets and they were a good quality.

I have to say that I did like the blankets and sheets, as I found them warm and comfortable.  However, one of the blankets reminds me of hospitals, as they do use them on hospital beds.  Here is the one I mean. This is a Texmade blanket.
As I recall, these were also sold in the following colours:  green, pink and yellow...if my memory serves me accurately.

Here is a photo of a set of Texmade sheets.

I remember that my mother had a few sets of pillow cases like these...

My mother made a few blankets for our beds when I was a little girl, and they looked similar to the one I am sharing a photo of here...she made them herself.
Thanks so much for visiting me here, and please feel free to share your own memories by clicking on the "comments" button at the end of this post.

  1. Love the last pic—I have crocheted many granny squares in my life, and can appreciate the work that goes into making a blanket!

I don't remember the brands of bedding that my mother used, but I remember that she ironed all the sheets & pillow cases. We had some of the fancy hand done pillowcases that my dad's mother had made, but we never used them. I was an asthma baby with many allergies, so Mother changed my sheets often & always bleached them to kill any germs. Bleach would ruin the fancy hand embroidery. Your mother's crochet work is lovely, but that was another NO-NO for the same reason...no bleach. Today my favorite type blanket is the Velluxe blanket. It's soft like velvet but very light weight. Unfortunately they are not very durable & my St. Bernard liked to chew on them as a puppy, so I've gone through quite a few in the last few years !

    1. Hi Kim, thanks so much for sharing your memories! The photo of the afghan is not mine, but a photo I found on the web...it is the closest to the ones that my mother made, though. So true...bleach. I am not sure about the Velluxe blanket you speak of, but I love soft and lightweight bedding so it sounds like something I would love.

  4. my grandma made me several pillowcases just like your pix above..she would buy plain white cotton ones and add her own embroidery to bottom and also a lace trim she would buy already made. I still have most of what my grandmother made me :))
