Vintage Diner

I remember the old diners.  The food was great, the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable and the prices were quite reasonable.  There was a jukebox at practically every table.

Back then, receipts were all handwritten, as there were no computers.  The cash register was simple and manual as compared to the cash registers of today.

I am going to share a few photos of how diners looked back then.

Thank you so much for stopping by, and please feel free to share your own thoughts and memories by clicking on the "comments" link at the end of my post.

  1. I love that first picture. I remember sitting on those stools and twirling around so fast I would get dizzy....somehow, I just didn't feel like eating after that! lol Diane

  2. We didn't have "diners" in England, but we did have "milk bars" where my Mum would take me, after shopping, so she could get a cup of tea, or coffee, and I could get a milkshake....very popular with teenagers, and I would love to watch them choose something from the juke-box, then the girls would twirl around, and show their big, fluffy netting underskirts!

  3. Diners are way before my time but I still think they're cool. I'm pretty old school for my generation. If you ask me to pull out an iPad, I'll pull out a pad of paper and a pen/pencil, my phone isn't Smart, and my iPod is a big stereo. :o)

  4. In the blink of an eye, my mind went straight back to those Happy Days of my teen years.
    Cheers :)

  5. I worked as a waitress & cashier for some time. Every thing was done by hand. No computers. I cant even begin to figure out how many reciept books I used writing orders over those years. When we eat out we like to go to Dennys. More like old time but not price wise. Really good food. Blessings!

  9. i love diners.. they are more modern now but there is this quaint old fashioned antique Railway car in this little town where i use to live that has been there for over fifty years if not more and is an original train dining car from the old time trains which is where they all came from..people would salvage the silver bullet dining car when these fancy trains were dismantled. I have fond memories of this lil rail car with my late grandmother..she and her husband had been going to it since before i was born and i have one of my last memories of her before she died taking her to breakfast! She says its the last place to get a good plate of home fries and eggs over easy and bacon like the old daze.. :)
