St. Joseph's Oratory...Montreal!

First of all, I want to thank you all so much for your kind responses to my posts.  I truly appreciate your time and visits here.  A few of you have asked about the Oratory...and what it is.  The St. Joseph's Oratory is a Catholic cathedral situated on Montreal's Mount Royal.  People from all over the world come here to see it, as it is a beautiful and unique structure and has some detailed and fascinating architecture.  Religious and non-religious alike flock to the oratory in great numbers daily, as it is a very popular tourist attraction here.  There is a free shuttle bus that is offered for those who wish to go up in this manner as opposed to walking.  You can, as well, give a donation for the service;  however, this is not mandatory.


I have taken many photos of this beautiful place and I will share some with you here.  I purposely took photos at different angles to show how amazing and elaborate this oratory is.  For today I will show you the exterior views of the oratory...and Brother Andre's Chapel, which is another building on the side of the oratory.  


There are three staircases to the oratory for those who choose to mount on foot.  The middle staircase is painted wood...reserved for those who wish to mount on their knees in prayer.  



This smaller building is Brother Andre's Chapel.

These last two photos are of the bell tower...and the music coming from here is just beautiful.

    A magnificent place you've shared with us today Linda. Thank you so much. My favorite memories of my small village in England were listening to the church bells on Sundays. I can only imagine what they must sound like from the bell tower.

    The steps at the chapel are so unusual, and I love the angles you got at the Oratory. They really must show it off at it's best. I had never heard of it till your post, and am amazed to know what it is! I just learned something new and saw some really cool pictures! Thanks for showing us, your blog gets better and better.

    You have done a nice job re my question about an "oratory." And your photos are very expressive of this excellent structure, including the chapel of Brother Andre! In Paris, Notre Dame gets a ton of visitors, also by religious and non-religious.
