Coca-Cola Over the Years

I may have mentioned this in a previous post, but in case I didn't, and for the sake of my newer readers, I will mention it.  Coca-Cola was formulated in the late 1800's by a pharmacist...1886.  The original recipe was created in order to help people who had stomach troubles and that "down" feeling.  Amazingly, and thankfully, the Coca-Cola logo has never changed throughout the years.  Although other companies change their logo from time to time for whatever reason, Coca-Cola has remained the same from day one.  Personally, I find this quite appealing, especially in this day and age where companies are constantly trying to find new ways to promote their products.

I suppose I am "old school; old fashioned".  My personal opinion is that if something is working well or isn't broken, it doesn't require "fixing".  I am always disappointed when I see old buildings change.  Don't get me wrong, change is very good in some circumstances, especially for the public's safety, such as putting in newer elevators and the like.  Outside of this, though, such as with the Coca-Cola logo, I find no need to change it...as it has worked all these years, and has continued to do so...as it is.

I don't drink Coca-Cola (or any other soft drink) often, so the purpose of my post isn't to promote any of these products.  I just happen to love the Coca-Cola items such as their signs, old television commercials and memorabilia.  I actually have no Coca-Cola items at all, I just enjoy seeing them.  :)

Here are some vintage Coca-Cola photos that I found on the web that I hope you will all enjoy.

First is a Coca-Cola calendar...1900!

Next is a 1912 Coca-Cola calendar!

A few more Coca-Cola related photos...

Thank you all so much for stopping by!  I really look forward to hearing your memories and thoughts.  Please click on the "comments" link at the end of my post to share.

  4. I don't remember any of these, but I do love Coke, and agree with you completely about not changing a good thing. I usually only drink Coke when we go out to eat. I have heard when it started, it had real cocaine in it!

  5. Great post Linda. I love drinking Coca Cola. Thanks for sharing the information about it and the images. It is neat to see how it was then! I agree- if something is successful I don't see why it should change! :) Thanks for sharing this!!

  6. That is a good point about their logo being unchanged ever since its inception. Interesting pictures. Still don't like the stuff myself.

  8. Hi Linda :-) I have just enjoyed catching up with all your recent posts, all great fun! I loved the 'Laughter is Good Medicine' especially the one with the photographer :-)

You have reminded me that I had a little night light when I was a child, my grandmother gave it to me and I think it was quite old then. It was in the shape of an owl with a little carrying handle on the top....I wish I still had it.

The Coca-Cola photos are so pretty. I don't drink it either or any other soft drinks (apart from pure fruit juice diluted with water) but I completely agree with you about changing something for the sake of change. Only the other day I was bemoaning the passing of the old decoration on the Quality Street tins, not sure if you have them there but they are a toffee assortment often given as a present at Christmas and used to have the most delightful pictures of old fashioned ladies and gentlemen on the tins. I have never really had a sweet tooth but I used to love those tins, the pictures fascinated me as a child!

Talking of Christmas did you know that our modern idea of what Father Christmas looks like in his big red coat etc. was originally created by Coca-Cola. I hope no one is ever silly enough to decide he looks any different, I think he's perfect just as he is. As you say, if it's not broken why fix it?

Sorry this is getting rather long but I've just remembered something else. Your mention of Coca-Cola being originally designed for people with stomach disorders reminds me that a long while ago I heard that if someone left a set of false teeth in a glass of cola overnight they would melt!!! :-)

    1. Thank you so much for checking out so many of my posts, I really appreciate it. As far as the Quality Street tins go, I do remember them! In fact, to be honest, I had almost forgotten about them until you mentioned it, and I suddenly got a visual memory of their nice tins.

I didn't realize that Father Christmas with that great outfit was originally created by Coca-Cola! Thank you so much for sharing this, you made my day! :)

  11. Neat ads for Coke my friend.
Coke also is good at cleaning tarnished coins - drop them in a glass of Coke at night and just see in the morning

  12. Very interesting post, Linda. I wonder if chemist John Pemberton in 1886 realised that his invention would become one of the most successful products ever. People are still speculating about the secret formula of Coke and who knows it. No one has ever revealed it in the public domain.

    1. Good one, Bill. I don't know if he knew or not, but I am sure that if he were alive to see what came of his original creation and how popular it has become he would be amazed. :)

  13. The first taste of Coke at a Pharmacy was such a great taste. It has changed from that old time flavor. But I still like it and the posters are really wonderful. They certainly thought one's life style would improve by drinking a coca cola

  16. Wow! The pictures say a lot about it exists and history… and some are gorgeous ads! Coca Cola was my favorite soft drink... and I have gulped a lot in latterly! But it’s been long time I drink Coke.

It doesn’t need to change for better, I think.
