Old Fashioned Country Store, Loudoun, Philomont General Store

I got really excited watching this video, because this is my idea of a store!  I hope you all enjoy this as well!  It is a short, 3 minute video of a store in Virginia, U.S.A., and it is an old fashioned country store that sells just about everything and even has a post office.

I really miss these stores and really don't see them anymore. There are perhaps a few in Montreal, but certainly they are in the minority with all the big box retailers of today.  Not only that, I don't know of even one with the stock and atmosphere...and post office as shown in this video!  It's sad, because I think that so many stores today don't have the warm, friendly atmosphere and great customer service.

Do you have any stores like this in your area?  I really appreciate and enjoy reading your thoughts.  Please click on the 'comments' link at the end of my post to share.

  4. We had an old time hardware store in Kenora for several (many) generations. Unfortunately, the latest set of offspring did not want to run it. They had everything! Their unofficial motto was " If we don't have it, you don't need it"
They even sold dynamite and caps out the back door. This was right on main street to. It was a great store and great folks. They knew everybody by name also. Good memories!

  6. Nope, we don't have one near to me. I'm a bit worried about selling dynamite through the back door, that should be against the law, isn't it?

  7. I agree. Those old-fashioned general stores had so much charm. It seems like you only find them at touristy places nowadays.

  8. This reminds me of an old country store that my uncle owned in Kansas. I loved to visit him there ... sold most everything and it was a wonderful place with incredible smells!

  9. Good to have, but the numbers dwindle. We have an old grocery store around the corner and further down the state we have an old general store that specializes in cheese.

  11. I remember stores like this - I once bought a front lamp for my cycle, it was wedged between the bacon and the eggs. Alas, I don't know of any still extant. Wonderful post. Thanks for it.
