This first photo: Hatters & Furriers 1921. Steinmetz Building, 12th and F Streets N.W. A rainy day in Washington, D.C., in 1921. National Photo Company collection glass negative.
I absolutely love this photo! I love the reflections of the building on the rainy street.
This next photo is another one I love. Info for this photo: Washington circa 1917. Shoomaker's Saloon at 1311 E. Street N.W., after having moved from 1331 E. Street in late 1914. National Photo Company glass negative.
Here is another photo that I really like. The info for this one: Detroit, Michigan, circa 1909. Princess Theatre. Nothing nicer anywhere! 8 x 10 inch dry plate glass negative, Detroit Publishing Company.
They don't build 'em like THAT anymore!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to shuffle these old memories, I know - and invariably of interest to others.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it, the older we get, the more beautiful the past seems? lol
ReplyDeleteThey used to paint the names of stores on the buildings as though they intended to be there forever. There are still some old buildings in the Twin Cities that have faded names on their side for businesses or products that disappeared many years ago. I guess things are more temporary nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThere is something special about these old photos...I guess it's because in order to understand who we are, we need to know where we came from and old photos help us understand that.
ReplyDeleteI remember 5 cent matinees in a small town in Minnesota in the early 40s.

ReplyDeleteLovely photos Linda. I love old photographs like these, beautiful old buildings and fab cars. Brilliant to have so little traffic that you can actually see the buildings.
