Abandoned Blogs

Hi, everyone!  I made a post the other day showing a video of a ghost town, and the responses you all gave prompted me to write this post...about abandoned blogs.

The video I am sharing is a National Geographic one entitled, "Geese Fly Together."  It is a short and informative video that I enjoyed, and hope you all will as well.

So, back to the topic of this post...abandoned blogs.  I have been blogging for just a year now.  I began this blog in February of 2012.  I have seen many blogs within this year, and several abandoned ones.  I often wonder why people abandon their blog.  Here are the reasons I came up with:  perhaps they ran out of things to blog about;  maybe they got discouraged at the lack of readers and/or interest and response to their posts;  maybe they just got tired of blogging, and perhaps they may have passed on.

For some, I am sure it can be disheartening to take the time to put together a post, only to get no response.  While I cannot speak for others, I can say that I put my heart into my posts.  Sure, my posts may not be as lengthy or elaborated or even as fancy as some other bloggers' posts, but I do put my heart into it, as I am sure other bloggers do as well.

That is my topic for the day, just something I observed and wanted to share here with you all.

The photo I am sharing today is one I took on a walk in April 2011.  I came across a groundhog that didn't seem to mind my taking a photo, so I seized the opportunity.  You just need to click on the image to see a larger view.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I really appreciate and enjoy reading your thoughts, which you can always share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  1. At first, I was afraid that I'd run out of subjects to blog about. However, I've learned that I'm such a hopeless windbag that my concern was completely groundless!

  2. I too have seen some very good, and some great blogs disappear. One of the best was hacked, and the fellows hard work was undone. I keep thinking of the song "turn, turn, turn" where everything has a season. I forget who wrote it Beejees?

  3. Look in Ecclesiastes, third chapter, Ian. It was first recorded by Pete Seeger as a song, and then "The Byrds."

  4. Awww, what a cute photo! Yes, I totally agree. Also, bloggers will take a long break without telling us first...if they are sick, or going on a trip, or what. And some of us worry what has happened to them!!! I really think a blogger should not take a leave of absence or shut down without giving us a little reason, it doesn't have to be long. Unless of course it is an emergency of some sort.

  5. Hi Linda,
thank you for sharing your thoughts about abandoned blogs. Thats really very special. I saw some of such blogs, whos owner probably lost the interest to blog. May be things in their life turned and they have not the time anymore. But some of really wonderful bloggers with lots of followers and lots of comments for each post stop suddenly, too. And nobody knows what happened with them. Thats scary! The problem is, most bloggers don't have a possibility to contact that blogger in real life. So nobody knows if they are dead or alive. The blog still exists like a abandined house and reminds to such bloggers.
Thank you for your visit and your sweet comment on my blog.
    Bets greetings, Johanna

  6. We get a number of Canadian Geese here and I think some come back year after year to raise their young. The video is beautiful. And your groundhog photo is fun! They're rascals, though, and can make a mess out of a yard. We do have them in our neighborhood!

Blogs get abandoned for all kinds of reasons and you enumerated many of them. I think some people get tired of them or move on to other things. Normally, I don't worry about any of that, although on a couple of occasions I was concerned when people I had been corresponding with just disappeared.

Blog as long as you want. Then say "Goodbye" when you've had enough or you want to spend your time doing something else.

But, I for one, do appreciate the fact that you visit our blogs and make intelligent and fun comments. That does mean a lot!

  7. I miss some great blogs that have just shut down...some bloggers tell their followers about the problem...other just shut down.

I changed blogging platforms after a problem with stalking...why continue, one asks?
Well, I continue because blogging has put me in touch with some great people and it's like a continuing conversation.

    Loved the geese!

And thank you again for your support over the stalking...it means a lot to me.

  8. I've seen many blog friends come and go. I sometimes look back at old posts and wonder where did they go?

  9. Very good video. I understand why some people stop blogging. You have to invest a lot of time if you publish regularly. Sometimes people don't get traffic or comments so it can be disappointing. We are probably lucky we get so many active reading. Take care of all of them.

    Greetings,
    Filip

  11. National Geographic has beautiful video's.
And blogging, Linda, is sometimes very difficult. I put my heart in every picture, just like you do. But sometimes I work hours..., and than I wonder..., for who/what..., any way, virtual friendship can be beautiful...

  12. Over the years I've been blogging, three of those I followed have died--that I know of. At least I knew what happened so I could leave my regrets. When bloggers simply drop out of sight you never know where they went.

  13. First time visiting and commenting on your blog; I have to say I too wonder about abandoned blogs; especially some of them that are out there 2-3 years older or more. If someone decided not to blog anymore, I think they should either delete the blog or make it private so that its just not floating out in internet space so to speak, especially some that have pictures of their kids on their blogs etc. We just never know who is reading the stuff we blog about and what they might be doing with it, so I'm always cautious about things like this.

  15. Thanks for visiting my blog Linda. I've never seen a groundhog before. I didn't realise they were so big, I thought they were more like a rat size. Well, the groundhog is cute.
I wonder sometimes about abandoned blogs. I think some move on to twitter and facebook and sort of leave their blog behind.

I blog a lot about my mental health issues, my depression, anxiety, and most of all my compulsive eating. It's very therapeutic for me. I've followed other blogs in a similar vein, and when they disappear I worry that the writers may be going through a bad patch and feel ashamed or embarrassed about it. I've promised myself I'll keep blogging no matter how I'm doing!

    Love the video! :-)
