Old Fashioned Drugstore

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to each and every one of you!  The video I have chosen for this post is a one minute clip of an old fashioned drugstore...that is still in existence!  Enjoy!

I think it will all depend on your age and where you live, but I am a baby boomer (born in October, 1956) and I fondly remember the old fashioned drugstores here in Montreal back in the 60's.  When I was a little girl (and as I got older as well), most drugstores were equipped with an old fashioned soda fountain where you could order breakfast or lunch, a coffee, tea or milkshake and the food was quite good, as were the prices.  These drugstores were very customer oriented and you always received good, old fashioned and friendly customer service in a warm and enjoyable atmosphere.  I really miss them, as there aren't any in existence here anymore...at least not to my knowledge.

The photos I am sharing today are ones I took on a recent walk.  Please keep in mind that the sun was very strong on the day I took these photos...and I find that the photos I take when the sun is so strong don't turn out as well as when there is some shade or when it is more cloudy.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always enjoy and appreciate reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  1. We had one of those drugstores in my hometown. It was so full of merchandise you could hardly get to the back where the soda fountain was. My Grandpa bought me many trinkets from that store. The 'druggist' was a wonderfully nice man and always from the time I was a little girl complimented me on my strawberry blond hair. We would 'go to town' on Saturdays and we knew to meet my Grandma in front of the store. Sometimes my Mom would go off shopping and my Grandma and I would go in and sit in a booth and have an egg salad sandwich and an orange Crush drink. Thanks for the memories today!
    The flowers are lovely!

  3. Your flowers are gorgeous! I love them when the sun is on them the best, it makes awesome pictures and lights them up so wonderfully. They seem to look rather dull in the shade. So yours are JUST PERFECT! OH, I LOVED the soda fountains and miss them so!!! We had one on our corner growing up, in a drugstore. Yes, I was born in 1949 int a prefect world that is now gone forever.

  4. Super flowers, they brighten up a dull day, and a milkshake, I think the last one I had was in 1968!!! Now, that does tell my elderly status!!! I know the year so well, I was very ill for some time after that. Cheers from Jean.

  5. A drugstore having a soda fountain where you could order breakfast or lunch, a coffee, tea or milkshake ! This is amazing. Sad they are no longer around. In general stores have become highly automated and there is very little interaction between customer & shop owner.
Your flower pics are bright & colorful and pure joy to behold. Best Wishes Ram

  10. Oh Linda - every time we drive by Prud'homme and Sherbrooke - I remember my grandfather taking me to a small drug store - I was probably 6 - so 48 years ago - and I'd twirl on one of those seats and have a bottle of coke ( in a GLASS bottle lol )
And by the way - Chalet Bar-b-q still brings me back to those days too - since they haven't changed their decor since then!!!
    Great post!

  11. First... loved the cows responding to the cello. We all love music.. there should be more music in the world, yes?

Our local small town drugstore also had the soda fountain and what fun it was... late '50's. Cherry coke was a new item them!

  12. The video did indeed bring back warm memories of the past. And the sunshine didn't hurt your flower photos a bit. Love the last one especially, with the multiple colors.

  13. And sometimes the sun enhances all the colors. I love the mix of yellow, orange, red, pink in the last picture.

  14. Yeah I don't think I've ever seen the classical drugstores even when I was little.

  15. Lovely photos. I work at a college in a small town in Central Ky. In this town there is a drugstore with an ice cream and soda counter in it. It's like taking a trip back into time. It's unlike anything I've ever seen.

  24. Your video was fun, I didn't grow up with these when I was a child in England, but I have enjoyed finding them here. There is one in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We went into it the last time we were there which was a while ago. It is about an hour and a half from home. There is also an old-fashioned soda fountain in West Yellowstone. We are going to try that out tomorrow :)

Loved your flowers Linda, lovely post as always.

  25. They don't have the old fashioned drugstores around here anymore. Most of them are chains. Though the one I go to is friendly (I live in a small town), it still has a chain quality.
