A First Time for Everything

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to each and every one of you!  The video I have chosen for this post is a sweet and delightful 2 minute clip that has an upbeat tune...and it made me smile.  Hope it will you as well.  Enjoy!  :)

Well, as the saying goes, "there is a first time for everything". It seems that I have had a few of these "firsts" in the last couple of months.  Firstly, I managed to capture a couple of photos of a dragonfly.  Secondly, I took a couple of photos of a butterfly...and NOW!  Wow!  I went for a nice walk today and found a chicken coop in a backyard...perhaps this is not unusual for many of you, but it is here!  Montreal is a city and this was a first for me.  I was absolutely delighted, and took some photos of these beautiful birds.  You will see a green fence...this is because I was actually in a park when I took these photos;  the house was behind the park's fence.  Hope you can manage to see the photos well enough.  It wasn't easy photographing them because they moved around a lot and because of the park's fence.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share by clicking on the 'comments' link at the end of my post.

  1. The video was perfect for this post, Linda. Chickens can be very pretty and colorful, and it looks like you found some that fit that description.

  3. It must have been exciting to find chickens in the city . I own chickens and I still enjoy it when I see them at places that you wouldn't normally expect to find them:)

  4. I've only seen a chicken coup up close once. Just two of them in my distant cousin's yard.

  6. You can keep chickens in urban sectors unless bylaws forbid it
Chickens are great comapanions and no need for a male unless you wish to breed from them.
Check with your council but if you can keep them you'll love their company.

  8. great photos of the chickens! you're right, i grew up in a semi-urban state and the sight of chickens in coops was common, so these photos do bring back memories of my younger years =)

  9. Great to see chicken coops in the city. We had chickens for many years (still have the coop) but had to give them up when we became snowbirds, and our 'chicken sitter' grew up and went to college.

    Have a great week !

  10. Dearest Linda,
A chicken coop in Montréal is certainly an exception. As a child we used to have chickens too and my Mom did have some exotic ones several years ago. It is fun to watch them and they make great pets!
Enjoy your new week and thanks for visiting.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  12. What fun! I have always enjoyed seeing chickens an have often said if I lived in the country I would keep them. I have never come across them in a city. The video was lovely too. Thank you Linda!

  13. love those chickens, the video is cute, made me smile. I came upon a very small back yard of chickens in Avignon, unusual but then in the corner of the yard I saw a little goat! I think they were breaking a few community rules. ;-)

  16. There's been some controversy here over people owning chickens in the city limits...even in Montana! I never thought I'd see that day!

  18. Linda - your video and pictures of the chickens made me smile. Those chickens can be illusive at times - but you did a great job capturing them. Have a great day. Hugs

  19. I used to live near Austin, Texas. There is a chicken coop tour there each year and lots of funky, funny, or interesting chicken coops. Seems like Montreal is a little behind on urban farming laws.

  21. Like the chicken photos!!
I pass by some chickens and roosters at a farm most every morning on my walk. They roam around the farm.
There is a chicken in town in a coop too. At first there were 5 and now only one is left. I think the one left killed the other four!
