Childhood Memories

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!  The video I have chosen for this post is a delightful 2 minute clip of a young deer bathing a cat.  Enjoy!

The photos I am sharing today are ones that I took a few years ago in my old elementary school.  I took these photos of the hallways, as even as an adult, I am amazed at the size of this school.  Each colour represents different grades.  They have kindergarten up to grade 6...and the red colour is from kindergarten up to (I think) grade 2.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

I have some good memories (as well as some bad memories) like most people, of my schooldays.  When I was in grade 2 a teacher decided that I wasn't learning at as a rapid pace as my fellow school classmates, so I was put in a special class for slow learners.  I remember one of my teachers in the special class telling me that she felt that I didn't belong there, as I was different from the other children in that class.

Nevertheless, I was in a special class right up until grade 9 in high school, when I fought hard to get back into the regular classes...and did, and in grades 10 and 11, I finished high school in the regular classes and got my high school diploma.

I feel that the experience of being in a special class, (regardless of whether I belong there or not), taught me a valuable lesson:  never to underestimate the abilities of others, to never make fun of others, and never to judge others who are different than myself, especially those who have a slower capacity of learning!

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always appreciate and enjoy reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share.

Je suis d'accord, avec ce sentiment de ne jamais juger la différence.

  2. Sounds like you learned some wonderful life lessons through your own difficulties. It also sounds like you worked very hard to accomplish what you did.

  4. Beautiful, caring ,between different animals, to be valued. A few years ago I drove to my old primary school, where I was between 1945 and 1952!!! The main building looked the same, some additions at one end. , new pool and huge new hall, memories galore. Cheers from Jean.

  13. I have always found it sad that schools separate children like that - I think it leads to children categorizing themselves.

  14. Wow what a bright cheerful looking school. I remember my grade school being a dull gray.
I didn't like school at all. I was one of the kids that got picked on. It was a bit better by the time I got to high school though.
Though it must have been hard for you, you sound as though you learned a valuable lesson.

  19. I did not learn very much when i was in school. No one took the time to help me. I probably should have been in your class....but for some reason they just kept passing me from grade to grade with D's. I had a friend Virginia who was in a special class and her grades where better than mine and she got a good job after she graduated. :-/ I appreciate you sharing.

  22. It sounds like you have always been a strong person - - - who perseveres to do her best and show the world the person you know you really are and not whom they perceive you to be. LOVE the video - - and that the cat loves it so much. They are usually so finicky.
