Friday Serenity & Learning More about Me

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!
I don't have a big appetite, especially over the last year or so.  My favourite foods are fruits and vegetables, lamb, chicken, fish (especially salmon) and pork, and I very rarely eat dessert.  I eat supper early, between 5 and 6 p.m., as I find it gives me plenty of time to digest my food.  If I am hungry in the evening sometimes I will make my own popcorn or have a bowl of corn flakes cereal with some milk (no sugar), I like them the way they are.  The only bread I seem able to eat and like is raisin bread.  Generally I don't eat bread or pasta, as I find it too heavy.  I have had several attacks of gout in the past and I am on meds to prevent it.  I used to eat beef but haven't eaten beef in months, it just doesn't appeal to me, I find it too rich.  My favourite dessert would be lemon meringue pie (but I have this very rarely, because I rarely eat dessert).

I had a bacterial infection last year...and was sick for the entire month of July.  The infection I had is called C Difficile.  "Difficile" is the French term for "difficult", and believe me, it was a very difficult time for me.  I lost my appetite and I lost 8 or 9 pounds as well. Even though my diet was not the cause of the C Difficile, since then I changed my diet considerably in favour of healthier foods.  It was then that I also lost all taste and appeal for beef, as I find it heavy and difficult to digest and I know that beef was highly responsible for my gout attacks as well.  I have never smoked in my life, I drink no alcohol and I have never done drugs.  Thanks so much for listening.

The videos I have chosen for this post are:

  1. Thanks for sharing more stuff. Interesting that you lost taste for so many things and now find them heavy. The body sometimes knows when to stay away.

  11. Hi, dear Linda! It's a pleasure to read more about you. I'm sorry to learn that you were stricken with a bacterial infection and suffer from gout. I believe a proper diet can help ease those and other medical conditions. You and I are very similar. I enjoy fruits and vegetables and am perfectly happy avoiding beef and other types of meat. I get protein from unsalted peanuts and beans. I love fish and eat lots of salmon. I never eat dessert. I quit smoking, drinking and recreational drug use all at the same time the very same day in June 1992 and have been clean and sober ever since.

That mother cat makes a sound like a chirping bird. Could it be that she swallowed a canary and that's what we're hearing? :)

Thank you, dear friend Linda, and have a safe and happy weekend!

  17. Thank you for sharing more about yourself. I find it really interesting...makes me feel I know you better and better.
I find I can no longer eat red meat. It plays havoc with my digestion, so I tend to stay with mostly chicken and fish. I am a martyr for desserts though...they are definitely my downfall! lol
I loved the videos and quotes...so full of inspiration and insight.:)

  19. I am afraid I am the opposite of you in my eating habits and habits of the past. However, I am trying to eat healthier! I love the post with the bird singing as that would be me! I sing or hum all the time, much to my friend's annoyance.

  20. Beautiful imagery - but I was also interested in the migraine link.

I no longer suffer from migraine headaches, but I wish I had known about all the food links, real or potential. That was never mentioned to me but I believe it is a solid link.

  24. Thank you for sharing more of your seemingly endless supply of pearls of wisdom Linda. I get the very occasional attack of big toe gout. I can't attribute this to a specific food and I do think it is an inherited condition to some extent.

I hope your weekend warms up.

  25. The sound of that mama cat is quite different from what I tend to hear from cats!

  26. It's great you are eating light and healthy. I like salmon and raisin bread, too! I love dessert, sweets that are very rich and heavy kind. I know it's bad!

  32. It is best to eat a healthy diet if you can. My only 'sin' is salt! I crave it so! I went for 9 months without eating it back in 1985 when I was pregnant with Amber. Other than that i think i have a healthy diet. LD has gained several pounds the last few years so I will be watching what I cook for his sake.

  35. It's wonderful that you are eating so healthy. Mr D and I have greatly improved in the past few years but I know we could do better. I enjoyed all your 'word pictures,' good messages on them all. Hope you have a Happy Valentine's Day. Do you celebrate Valentine's Day in Canada? I lived up there for a very short time years ago and I can't remember if Valentine's Day is celebrated or not.

Glad your predicament was over. What a period when you were down with sickness.

    Happy Valentine's Day to you.
