Did you see "celebrating winter" in my post title today? You sure did! I know, some of you will moan and groan (LOL!), which is fine, but I just love the winter. Today was supposedly the coldest day we have had yet this winter here in Montreal, and what did I do? I dressed up warmly and headed out into the blizzard, strong winds and cold crisp air...and enjoyed every minute of it. For those of you who know me well and/or are regular readers of my blog, you will know that I struggle with depression. So some of you may wonder, "How is it that you can love winter so much when you struggle with depression?" Well, my depression is not seasonal, it comes at any time of the year; yes, even in the summer. Actually, I might add, especially in the summer. If any of you are familiar with how summers are here in Montreal, you will know that they get dangerously humid....a lot. I also have osteoarthritis and I struggle with more arthritis pain in the summer than any other time of the year because of the intense humidity and extreme heat we get here.
For myself, the winter is magical. I don't think it is too long, but sometimes I think it isn't long enough. To each his/her own, I guess, but I am wondering if any of you love the winter as much as I do. I love taking walks (when it is safe, of course, not like a skating rink on the sidewalks and roads), the smell of the fresh, cold, crisp air, the snow, the many activities that are available. Even though I don't skate or ski, I do enjoy my walks and I feel happy and energized in the winter.
Here in Quebec we celebrate winter and it makes my day to know that there are others out there who love the winter as much as I. Thanks so much for listening. :)

Nice to hear that you enjoy winter:)
ReplyDeleteNo winter for me, thank you. So cold. I love autumn though - so beautiful, so serene, so soothing, so romantic. Wink! Wink!
Great post, I always learn something from you!
ReplyDeleteBonne journée Linda et bon hiver, ici neige mais le temps est doux.
ReplyDeleteMerci pour les jolies images
Laurence
Today, we had our first snow in London.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, it's just a small one. ;)
I understand what you mean about the winter Linda. Of course you have proper winters in Canada with crisp and sunny days. Here our winters tend to be cold, rainy and windy so i rather hate them. I could live with frosty, sunny days if only we had them on a regular basis.
ReplyDeleteBeing from Scotland we are used to all types of cold but not as cold as Montreal. I love a fresh crisp morning. Where we live now in Tenerife it is never "cold", this morning was a cool 16C. Health issues aside, you obviously manage to focus when you can in the joy in life Linda and that is a testament to your character!
ReplyDeleteCoucou Linda , toujours un plaisir de se promener sur ton blog ....
ReplyDeleteBisous et douce journée ...
Thérèse
Hi Linda, Yes, I DO love winter! :-) And, it is so nice to find another who shares my appreciation of the cooler time of year. Humidity gets me down. Enjoyed this post! John
ReplyDeleteHi, dear Linda! Now that I have lived in Florida more than 30 years I do miss the kind of winter weather I experienced in Pennsylvania the first half of my life. The winter cold is invigorating and I loved to take walks in the snow, especially at night after a heavy accumulation of powder. As I'm sure you have discovered it serves as natural insulation absorbing the sounds of the city. Walking in the snow at night under the stars is one of the most peaceful experiences I can remember. I miss that.
ReplyDeleteI think the horse rather enjoys having those goats climbing on his back. It must feel like a massage.
Happy Tuesday to you, dear friend Linda!
A cheerful heart is good medicine is a good verse to remember! Glad someone likes winter ;). My grandmother would agree with you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad there are people who like winter otherwise everyone would be in Florida this time of year...sometimes it seems like that anyway! :)
ReplyDeleteGoats are nuts. Our daughter has a bunch of them on her place near Ft. Lauderdale. Some are very nice but one is really mean...he'll butt you good if you're not looking!
We have been to a big pond on Big Pine Key which had a huge alligator and lots of other critters. This was when we didn't know any better and we fed the gator popcorn from about 2 feet away! When I found out how much danger we were in I broke out in a cold sweat!
tu aime l'hiver même avec des températures pareilles...
ReplyDeletenotre hiver reste très doux, il a à peine gelé pendant la journée..
et nous avons eu seulement 2 à 3cm de neige
belle journée hivernale Linda
Hi Linda!
ReplyDeleteWhile I am really a summer person, I do still thoroughly enjoy taking walks in the winter. That cold, crisp air is incredibly invigorating, isn't it?
Oh I so love your wonderful quotes and videos...every single time I visit here I leave uplifted and inspired...so thank you so much:)
xoxoxo
If it's there, goats will climb it. You may like winter for me; I can only tell you it's half over.
ReplyDeleteI love the winter also Linda. I enjoy putting my coat on and wrapping up warmly to take a walk. Love the smell of woodsmoke on the air from people's fires and coming home to a cup of hot chocolate to warm me from the inside out. Your daily posts are like that, they bring such good cheer. Thank you for sharing about your depression. No doubt that you help others by bringing a smile to them each day and letting them know they are loved.
ReplyDeleteNot going swimming in the Florida Keys! Hee hee!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best post because whilst I enjoy all the cartoons and sayings, I'd much rather get to know you. And here, you shared a great deal. Thank you for that.
ReplyDeletePS: We love winter, too.
The horse is so patient to allow the little goat to go all over him. I like the kitten quote. Thanks for sharing, Linda.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Linda,
ReplyDeleteMais quel patience il a ce cheval, c'est bien rigolo de les voir!
Bisous
Manon
Thanks for your fun post, Linda...I love those little baby goats and the horse. Have a really enjoyable time in the cold winter there...I'l stick with the sunshine in Texas.
ReplyDeleteI feel that suffer depression, it is very difficult to carry.
ReplyDeleteI prefer spring and summer in Madrid we have a climate that is fairly well supported, are only a few days of intense heat.
Greetings.
I am not a winter person but I admire those like you who do enjoy the winter months. Love the video of the goats playing on the horse. I also come away with a big smile on my face after seeing your blog. Thanks for sharing your life with us. Take care and have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteI too love winter! I'm a ski fanatic, so there's nothing I love more than sliding around in the white stuff. Sadly, we haven't had much of a winter yet here in the PNW. Our ski areas are suffering badly.....Too bad the east coast can't send some of their plentiful snow our way. :)
ReplyDeleteI love winter. And like you, I live with depression, but it's not a seasonal thing.
ReplyDeleteThe horse and the goats are too cute!
Thks for visiting Toulouse's blog.
ReplyDeleteI do love winter as I do love each one of the four sesasons even if I think that the seasons are not as well defined as they used to be. As we lived in the US (AZ) for so long I do enjoy winters and go outside a lot as soon as there is some snow outside like today but tonight the sun shone and the snow started to disappear. We'll see what happens tomorrow...
One day at a time...
Sorry no time for the videos...
Winter is not my favorite season, but I do enjoy it in moderation. There is something magical about walking in the cold. The air is just different and everything just seems to be still-er.
ReplyDeleteHi Linda, I like to walk also in the winter. I am in the Townships, the little town of Richmond, until April. A lot of snow back home in Gaspe this winter. I have been blogging to keep my mind and brain occupied and it helps pass the time. The sun is shining here today. I will go for a walk this afternoon. One of my blogs is http://thelmaday.blogspot.ca/
ReplyDeleteHi Thelma, I hope you get to see this response to your comment here. I am unable to comment on your blogs now, because your blogs only allow Google+ users to comment, and I don't have Google+. I don't want to get it because several of my fellow bloggers have told me that they didn't like it and that it complicated things for them. I used to be able to comment on your posts but cannot anymore do to the Google+ taking over the comments section of your blog. :(
DeleteI love winter WAY more than summer! Your summer sounds much like ours here in Texas! It is not as cold today and I am finally feeling better - so I am hoping to take Lucy on a nice long walk this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you love winter so much. Unfortunately, winter is my least favorite season. I don't like the cold or the snow and ice. I did however love that gag and the quote about friendship was lovely... :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing videos! I love the one with the horses!

Merci encore et à bientôt j'espère :) !
Love it all but the goats climbing over the "patient" horse is a winner!!!
ReplyDeleteVery annoying that you have problems with your health Linda, enjoy then the winter . Greetings from Edward.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you decided to get OUT and brave the weather!! Going out is so good for depressive patients. For me, there are many good things about winter! Mainly, NO bugs!! But I do miss the light! Are you on medication and does it help? Phil takes Prozac and it makes a world of difference for him.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to read, Linda, that you feel happy and good !
ReplyDeleteThe gag..., oh..., nooooo... Funny !
Je te souhaite un bon et long hiver chez toi
ReplyDeleteBisous
Any season os fine with me though I must have a large amount of sun. Four of five days in a row of clouds is not good. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about your depression. It's good that you know yourself and can attempt to fight it off.
I like your video with the horse. That was quite a massage for him or her. :)
so happy to hear that you are enjoying your walk outside during wintertime. I am the opposite:) I want summer :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I love those baby goats:)
Thanks for the quotes:)
Kiva kuulla että pidät talvesta.Minäkin pidän talvesta käydä hiihtämässä ja kaunis valkoinen lumi peittää maan. Videot hauskoja pidin niistä, myös kuvista
ReplyDeleteKiitos Linda lämmin halaus :)
Linda, I agree that traveling 90 minutes each way to work is a bit too much, however; my job pays pretty well for Halifax... I would have to take a huge pay cut else where... I am weighing my options though as I agree it takes away from life and some things are more important :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you can enjoy winter so well, linda!
ReplyDeletewinters in montreal can be though, can't they? do you have snow too?
I'm not a winter-lover. I adore warmth and sunshine, so my favorite season is summer. ;-))
a co-worker just went to the beach in Florida for vacation like 2 weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteHave never encountered winter before. But over here whether gonna be extremely hot soon as Chinese New Year is just two weeks away :)
ReplyDeleteThose videos are killing me. :D
ReplyDeleteDear Linda - winter can be magical...for that matter I think every season has its own special beauty and winter is no exception. Autumn is my favorite time because the humidity is gone and the days are that perfect cool that is so welcome after the heat of summer. Thanks for sharing your wonderful videos and quotes. It is always such an uplift to visit you. Hugs!
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing your thoughts on how you handle winter ... i love your perspective and am glad that you find pleasure in the positive aspects of this season! i do sometimes wish we had winter in this part of asia, since it's hot and humid all the time here, heh :)
ReplyDeleteSweet Linda, I love that you're keen to celebrate and embrace winter! Though I will bemoan it from time-to-time (who amongst us doesn't?), I love this season, too, and find that the older I get actually, the more I enjoy it and the long months of indoor serenity it can afford one (which are great for productivity and relaxing alike).
ReplyDeleteHere's to a beautiful second half of this season and a glorious, gorgeous spring whenever it does return.
Huge hugs,
♥ Jessica
