Tuesday Takes and What is Gimp?

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!

If you read my yesterday's post about my experience at camp as a child, I spoke about gimp.  Some of you asked what it was, so I will do my best to describe it. Perhaps it may be known by another name as well, but the only name I know for it is gimp.  It is (I think) a plastic material, it is long and thin, and comes in different colours.  You can weave it to make necklaces, bracelets and other things.  If you do a search in Google for IMAGES of "gimp bracelet" it will give you a visual idea of what it looks like.

For those of you who may have missed my Monday post, I have a special post planned for Sunday, May 31st on relaxation.  :)

The videos I have selected for this post are:

A Just for Laughs Gag/Juste pour Rire

Red, White and Blue Smoothie (Thirsty for)

Celtic Bagpipe Music - Mull of Kintyre

Charles Kellogg - Serenade 1916 Orchestra with Bird Voices

Friendly Baby Anteater Nuzzles Girl's Face

For the following, I am providing the link sources beneath each photo.  You just need to click on the images to see a larger view.

Life is one big playground.  Play hard.

The moment you change your perception is the moment you rewrite the chemistry in your body.

Take the high road.  There's less traffic.

Kindness has a beautiful way of reaching down into a weary heart and making it shine like the rising sun.

May your cup runneth over with blessings today! (complete with a huge dollops of whipped cream)

Spend some time with the ones that you love.

The only thing lacking in any situation is what you are not giving.

When you are sad or upset, always remember these points: Pain is part of growing.  Everything in life is temporary.  Worrying and complaining changes nothing.  Every little struggle is a step forward. Other people's negativity is not your problem.  What's meant to be will eventually, be.  The best thing you can do is to keep going.

Thank you all so much for visiting me here!  I always enjoy and appreciate reading your kind thoughts, which you are always welcome to share.

Linda, when I was young, I have no chance to join any camp and know nothing about camp. Only last few year, I had the opportunity to join some church camps.

  9. Good morning Linda. Yes, you are correct in calling it gimp. I remember gimp well because it taught me to be independent in life as a child. They were making key chains out of gimp at the park and I had asked my Dad for 3 cents for the gimp and he said no, we couldn't afford it. Mind you now, this was back in 1962 or thereabouts. It was then that I started earning my own money by babysitting and things like selling nylon stockings over the phone and never asked for so much as a penny from him again. It made me independent and I've always been able to take care of myself financially. Not bad for a piece of gimp. Enjoy your day!

  11. Not sure I'd want an anteater face to face - even a baby. :) Some very nice postings here..."Take the high road..." Not always easy but almost always a good idea. And I try to stay positive but that's not easy these days, either. Of course it wasn't easy at summer camp as I recall. Those were the days, my friend...

  12. Good morning, dear Linda!

This spring Mrs. Shady and I have been consuming mass quantities of strawberries and blueberries. The 4th of July is one of our favorite holidays and I will show her this recipe so that she can make a gallon or two of red, white and blue smoothie for us. My favorite video in this set was the one of the baby tamandua nuzzling the girl's face. The cute little critter appears to be kissing her but was most likely searching her face for insects to eat.

Dear friend, my daily schedule has changed. Please note that, from now on, I will need to visit your blog later in the day than I have been, sometimes much later. You are important to me and I will continue to try my best to visit your blog five times a week as I have been doing. Thank you, dear friend Linda, and enjoy the rest of your day!

  29. That is the second time I have heard Mull of Kintyre in a week - I wonder when the third one will be?

Thanks so much for explaining Gimp, I remember it as a child, but it must have been called something else. It had a resurgence in the 90s and was called Scoobies or something like that. Turns out, the weaving is a form of marcrame.

  35. Good day to you Linda. I was wondering too what is a gimp. Yea...we have it over here too. Did that during my school days. We made so many patterns.

Another is that we insert a wire into the middle of it then we make shapes . Can be made into key chain, hang on the wall etc.
