Saturday's Post - Insomnia and Moods

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!

I am finding that as I get older, it is more difficult to sleep.  In my "younger days," I rarely had a problem sleeping, but I am finding that there are some nights that I don't sleep at all!  This can make for a very difficult life in the sense that it really spoils my days, as because I don't sleep sometimes at night, I am very tired during the day, and I cannot stand this.  It isn't as if I don't know about the natural remedies for sleep, such as chamomile tea, a warm shower or bath, warm milk, lavender scent, soothing music and nature sounds and spending time with my sweet cat. I do not wish to use any meds such as sleeping pills, as I prefer to be able to sleep on my own using natural remedies.  Hopefully this will pass.  I am also finding myself to be more moody as well. However, that having been said, and thankfully, it isn't difficult to snap me out of a bad mood...the purr of a cat, the wagging tail of a dog, a kind word, a light and gentle touch, a smile, the sweet innocent face of a child, any of these things are pretty much guaranteed to snap me out of a bad mood.  Thank you so much for listening.

The videos I have chosen for this post are:

  2. Hi Linda, there was a period where I couldn't sleep well at night. I used to get up at odd hours and won't be able to get back to sleep again. There are nights I can't sleep at all, sometimes 2 nights in a row. But thank God, it was over and I am once again sleeping well. I guess these are the phases of growing old. Good to hear that you are easily snapped out of your bad moods. I enjoyed the Mynah birds video...wouldn't it be nice to have one around the house.

  3. Sometimes an online jigsaw will make me sleepy, or reading before bed. Hope you get yourself back to not geing sleepy during the day.

  4. Me too! Sleeping is getting more and more difficult. For me it first started about 4 years ago. I used to worry about it, but then I changed my thinking to, "This must be all the sleep my body needs," and it hasn't been so bad since. I still have energy during the day and am not drowsy with less sleep, so I figure, it really must be all that I need.

According to the people who should know, you need less sleep as you get older. Exotic Birds, is very beautiful Linda.

  8. Hi Linda--I started getting less and less sleep as well. I had a test done for hormones (melatonin is one) and the doctor found I was not producing it anymore. I take a natural melatonin supplement now and sleep very well. It is not a pharmeceutical. Also--many foods now have chemicals in them that disturb the sleep, so try to eliminate processed foods. Good luck!!

Sleeping is more efficient for all. We may get many problems due to lack of sleep. Before going to bed have a pleasant mind...

  16. I had a friend who had a Mynah bird back in the sixties. I hadn't really thought about it, but you DON'T hear about Mynahs much these days. I always thought my friend's bird was amazing, though.

  18. I'm sorry you're having such trouble sleeping. Have you tried exercise? Or lots of walking each day. Have you tried Melatonin 3 mg Tablet. Very healthy. I also used Benedryl to help me fall asleep. You can buy them over the counter and they really help. I used to take 50mg before bed.

I loved the gag as always. That would have been frightful.

I really love the Mynah Bird video. Hubby and I watched it together.

Have a fabulous day Linda. ☺

  20. Yes, those mosquitoes are nasty blighters, and can be pretty big!

Every once in awhile I have a rough night, but generally I sleep well enough. Try a nap during the afternoon.

  21. Hi Linda, not sure how I would react if the wheel broke off while I was there, a bit of a hoot for sure. The mynah bird is amazing. I have seen them before, one at a restaurant in their gift section in a large cage. He talked up a storm. Loved the quote about making someone happy to make us happy I find that so true. Hope you start getting a good night's sleep soon. I know how those nights go.

  22. i'm sorry to hear that sleep is becoming harder for you ... i do face the same issue sometimes too, and when it happens, i get cranky and i find it hard to concentrate on work. but usually after a few days, i end up finding my sleep groove again, so i hope that for you, that happens too. i think personally, sleep becomes elusive when our thoughts take control of our mind and we're worried about something. i hope in your case, you're not overly worried about something. take care.

  23. Terrible, dear Linda, if you cannot sleep...

  24. I'm sorry you have difficulty sleeping. I have an opposite (sort of) problem....I sleep too much! I prefer natural approach, too...don't want to rely on medicine as much as possible. I hope you get to have good night sleep.
Love the Meanwhile in Canada image:-) Happy weekend!

  25. The older I get, it seems the less sleep I need. I don't try to fight it anymore. I just get up - sometimes at 3:30AM. It seems not so long ago that I was just heading for the bedroom at 3:30AM. Every video, every quote, the artwork, the recipe, and Meanwhile in Canada were just great! Thank you, Linda.
