Monday Picks and Answers to your Questions!

Hello everyone!  A very warm welcome to you all!
First of all, I am responding to some answers to your questions from my last post.  I will continue to answer your questions as I receive them and over the next while!  :)

Sandee, from Comedy Plus asks:

1.  Have you ever been married?

Yes, I have, Sandee!  I was married from March 1983 until late 1998, so about 15 and a half years.  It was my husband who wanted the divorce.  We did not have any children, as I was unable to, so thankfully no children were affected by our divorce.  I have been single ever since and have no regrets.  :)

2.  What was your favorite thing to do when you were a kid?

It is difficult for me to pinpoint just one, but I really enjoyed the moments I got to spend with my parents and the good times and meals we shared together.

3.  If you had one thing to do over in your life, what would that one thing be?

I would have liked to go to college.  I only graduated high school and was unable to further my education due to low finances. I would have loved to further my education (as in going to college).  See, there was not enough money for me to have had this opportunity, and I only got to graduate high school with my diploma, so it would have been nice if I got the change to further my education.  Even though I realize that education is not everything, it can help in some areas such as employment opportunities and salary.

Birdie, from Ditching the Black Dog asked:

Do you have kids or grandkids?

No.  I elaborated a little on this in my answer to Sandee's questions, above.  :)

Mother of Reinvention asked,

1.  What is your cat called?
His name is Romeo.  :)

2.  Where did you get him?
He was originally adopted as a kitten by some friends of mine.  They found out later that their daughter was allergic to him, so they asked me if I would like to take him in.  Loving cats and having none at the time, I gladly accepted, and I am very happy I did. :)

3.  What is your favourite song?
This one is tough because I like so many, but if I had to pick one, it would be "I've Been Searching for so Long" by Chicago, 1974.

Caprici Della Ste asked: (I translated the questions into English)

1.  Do you like gardening?
I love to look at gardens, yes, but gardening itself, no.  But I have never had my own garden before.

2.  What is your favourite movie?
To Sir With Love starring Sidney Poitier

3.  What is your favourite book?
Bringing out the Best in People by Alan Loy McGinnis

Duta from Places with Character asked:

1.  Are you Canadian born?  Of what ethnicity?
Yes, I was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1956.  Both my parents were also born here...my grandparents on my father's side were born in Kent, England.

2.  Was your genealogical quest successful?
It was indeed!  I found pretty much all my cousins on both my father's as well as my mother's side of the family, and they are all lovely people!  :)

3.  Have you ever considered emigration from Canada?
I have, yes, but not often.  If I ever decided to emigrate from Canada I would probably wish to live in England somewhere, especially in the Kent area, where my grandparents were born.

Shon asked:

1.  What does happiness mean to you?
To me, happiness is being able to take one day at a time, not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future and trying to accept everything, good and bad, that comes my way.  I try to take each life experience and learn from it.  As well, happiness, to me, is being at peace with both myself and with others.

2.  What would you like to change in your life now?
My fears about my upcoming move.  It isn't that the move itself is scary for me, but the unknown, as I don't know yet where I will be going, and I am just trying to take one day at a time and not let it stress me, although this is easier to say than to do, but I am trying.

3.  What do you regret most in your life?
Thankfully I have few regrets.  I think perhaps what I regret most is that I had not done my genealogy search sooner.  However, what is most important to me now is that I did do it, even if it was later than sooner.

  9. I only finished high school too, not many here managed to go on to university during my time. I did go to a teacher training college and became a teacher, retired after 30 years in service. 10 years now, surviving on my pension, no complaint,

  11. My favorite quote is Change happens for a reason...roll with it! I always believe that. Not knowing how things can turn out can be stressing but try not to worry. It will be sorted out in time. I try to remember that too.
    Have a wonderful day Linda.

  23. I loved learning more about you and thank you for the chuckle about education being helpful for salaries and good jobs...(maybe in Canada that is the case). It USED to be the case in the U.S. but is no longer. I lost my job when I was 51 in 2007 due to downsizing, I have a college degree and can't even get a job at McDonald's. (I am 61).....and...the places that do want to hire you, bring you in at minimum age. I am assuming Canada doesn't function the same way.

  24. Thank you for sharing so much about yourself, and about Romeo. Kent is nice but the weather in the UK is mostly rainy. Have a lovely week. Xx

  27. So nice to read about your life Linda, I think it's great the way you have such a healthy attitude on life. It's so great the way you were able to find some delightful relatives. This is especially a subject of importance to me, and I realize the blessing. ...One of the things that has me a bit confounded is finding my only first cousin on my dad's side ( we even look similar ) ...And she doesn't seem to desire to communicate. I do try to accept it as God's protection in some way. I'm glad you have had the lovely opportunity of enjoying your relatives, so fulfilling I think. : )

I understand how you feel on college, I'm much the same way. In the season of life I am in, I try to better myself through reading and learning on my own but I get that certain occupations do need a degree. Some occupations do need it but sadly some occupations are missing out on some great people by requiring a degree when not necessary. Two of our daughters have had a time with it, and many colleges seem to make it a money making thing dragging it out as the debt increases for the poor student wearing themselves trying to work a job too. (Oops, allow me to step down from my soapbox) lol

I enjoyed the video of the soldier and his pet. How can anyone not love fur angels or our soldiers? I look forward to seeing the rest, they look wonderful!

Great quotes, where do you find the greatness? : ) ..And I agree, manners are so important.

Take care now Linda, I will not forget that both you and Romeo find a nest perfect for the both of you. Love and hugs dear friend, Amelia

  28. I like your answers to the questions asked. I'm glad you are happy with your genealogical quest results. Mine were a big frustration (so I was a bit worried for you when you told us about your quest).

"Radiance cannot be hidden" - how very true!

  33. Chicago! So cool to hear that they sing one of your favourite songs because... we just saw Peter Cetera (originally in Chicago) last week in concert. He is 72 years old and still puts on a lively performance!

  34. I'm sorry that you didn't have the opportunity to go to university, Linda. So many deserving people don't get to go, and it is very sad. My mother was the first person in her family to go, and she managed to get there by serving in the Canadian Air Force. She was so proud of that.

I couldn't have children either, but I shared my life with many children which made it easier. I think that you would have been a good mother!

I enjoyed the videos and quotes as always. I really believe in this quote: "Try to keep your soul young and vibrant all your days and to imagine always...that life is only beginning." That's how I have lived and hope to keep on living!

    Sending you love and hugs!
