Depression

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all having a good weekend and a blessed Easter!  I thought I would do a topic on depression, as many suffer (or have suffered) from this illness and anything you share here may be of benefit to others who are also suffering from depression.

Please know that you can respond ANONYMOUSLY if you wish to...and this is fine!

How long have you suffered from depression, and have you ever taken any meds for it?  If so, what medication...and how many milligrams, and for what length of time?  Have you ever had side effects from any depression medication?  If so, which medication and what side effects?  Does the medication you have or are taking help with the symptoms of your depression?

Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences on depression....just click on the "comments" link at the end of my post to share.  As I mentioned, you can remain anonymous if you choose to.

Thank you all so much for visiting my blog and for your comments, I really appreciate you all.

  1. Hi, I've suffered from depression since I was around 14. I have taken several meds over the years but am currently on venlafaxine 225mg, although I think it will be increased soon.
I have terrible withdrawal from these and minimal side effects that really bother me. Increasing 6 weeks ago brought me out of my worst depression yet. I've been on it for the last 8 years. and I have no intention of coming off it. It's my lifeline.
I should have increased my dose sooner but I kept putting it off but that is part of me being ill, denial.

Goodness, the last letter could have been written by me. I have also been helped dramatically from venlafaxine. I was prescribed it for severe hot flashes but found the help with the depression was more dramatic. I never intend to go off of it either.

I have been prescribed Celexa and have been on it for several months. No side effects and it does help with the depression and stress.

  4. I have a mild case of depression in winter - better known as SAD: Seasonal Affective Disorder. It's caused mostly by lack of sunlight, and in the winter in Interior Alaska, we have less than 6 hours of daylight in December. It can be pretty dark and dreary.

This past winter, I added Vitamin D to my morning routine and it was a godsend! I felt so much better this year, and didn't have as many problems with insomnia and the other symptoms of SAD.

Now the light is coming back quickly and soon we'll be up to 24 hours of daylight. I love this time of year!
